Wonderful M8 portrait lens

I have been reading up on 35mm Summilux options and quite like the idea of a pre FLE Summilux and live with the minor focus shift and or not stop down to 2-5.6.

The FLE is just too expensive and from what I have seen/ read the early lux is a little less modern in rendering. I think the earlier small pre asph will be a litle too soft

Hoping to move on to an M9 this year then decide which lenses I keep. Trouble is the lenses that overlap a bit I love. Like the 21 and 24 Elmarit asph M's and my 28mm summicron. For some reason the 35mm asph on the M8 doesn't seem that special.

I think I'll end up with 21,35,50,90. Not sure I could part with the 28 though or the 24 !

I have sold my 75 summarit as I prefer the use and rendering of the 90 Elmarit M

what's wrong with overlap?

A lens is there to accomplish a mission, not to cover 15-200. That's what DSLR zooms are for ;)

Your right ;)

I think I will end up with 21 Elmarit, asph,24 Elmarit asph,28 cron,35 lux, 50 lux and 90 Elmarit

I'm out over friends tonight with my 50 and 28 :D

75 1.4 `lux, a bit heavy, you need a $200 Leica ir filter, but only the results count. A bit oft at 1.4 sharpening perfectly by 2.8 or 2.5. Adjust for effect.

50 2.0 rigid less contrast than modern 50`s, Thorsten Overgaard uses one so if it is good enough for him, must be good enough for me. Lens has a rather small circle of really good sharpness at 2.0. Later 50`s get progressively bigger circle and more sharp inside the circle. A DR is the same, but there may be issues with the M8. Never tried mine, only the Rigid.

If you want sharp 1.4, well the current 50 1.4 is the only choice. Superb modern rendering. Same with 50 `cron current and 50 2.8 Elmar M. If you will use 4.0 to 11 and want a modern rendering, this is most cost effective.

I have never used a Current Summarit, just my 1.5 which makes beautiful soft/sharp images at 1.5 and has unique rendering that is hard to describe at smaller stops like 4 to 8

If you want character, Zeiss 1.5 Sonar optimized for 1.5 focus.

75 2.0 ASPH for modern rendering at 75 mm. Better handling the 1.4.

I have recently picked up a V2 50mm Summilux, wow what a wonderful lens. It has the Leica look and character in spades, very filmic and creamy but still sharp in the centre at 1.4

Low light people shots are stunning :D

I agree! The 66ish mm f/1.4 is literally and metaphorically brilliant.
