ymc226 Posted February 27, 2012 Share #1 Posted February 27, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just ordered this printer from B&H; should be here tomorrow. The specs show it to have an ethernet outlet but when I go on the Epson website FAQ page on setting it up for a network, it wants me to connect the ethernet to my computer but doesn't specify if I can also connect it to a router or other network adapter instead. Has anyone attached their 3880 to a network directly and not via their computer? I want to keep the printer in the basement where my analog darkroom is and use a powerline adapter to attach the printer to my home network. This way, I can be above ground while editing in LR3 and have the printer hidden from site.

kdriceman Posted February 27, 2012 Share #3 Posted February 27, 2012 I don't have mined hooked up to the network per se. It is connected to my Mac Mini Server via USB, but the Mac Mini is networked, so I can access the printer from other computers through the server. For what it's worth, it was very easy to setup this way and also works flawlessly.
ymc226 Posted February 27, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted February 27, 2012 I have a attached this printer to my router and it works flawlessly. If you are using a Mac system, when you connected the 3880 to the router, did you have to assign the printer an IP address before loading the software? I am not computer savvy so need help even at this level. All of the printers on my network "self installed" after I loaded in the driver software and clicked add printer on the appropriate printer window. Mark Pope Posted February 29, 2012 Share #7 Posted February 29, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a 3800 and I've sometimes thought about networking it. I have a question though. Is there an appreciable difference in printing time between a USB connection and Ethernet?
