tobey bilek Posted February 21, 2012 Share #1 Posted February 21, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mine seems to work with the soft release of a Viso11A or the soft release option on a viso 3. The slr type mirror up release seems to happen too slowly and I get a blank frame. IS this normal? How can the screw in the arm of the Viso 3 be raised more than sleeve over the lower thread allows. If this sleeve could be removed, the necessary 1 mm design clearance between the screw and shutter release could be achieved. This sleeve may not be on all viso 3 models. My older 3 can not be located now, but the last one I got in 1985 was the last one they sold. Has a red badge instead of black/white and has this capped tube over the bottom of the shutter contact screw. It was the Leica Rep`s sample, from the days when they had reps you could actually see. Should I look for my older one or will the screw be capped also?
Advertisement Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Hi tobey bilek, Take a look here Viso with M8 or M6TTL. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tobey bilek Posted February 22, 2012 Author Share #2 Posted February 22, 2012 The device I see is not a sleeve over the the last threads. It is a rod with a stud that screws into a threaded hole in the bottom of the normal short screw. The 1 mm distance can now be set correctly. I got brave and applied some nice thick tape and some heavy duty Krauter pliers I inherited from my grandfather who had them in his tool kit when I was a boy in early 1940s. I do remember seeing them in his tool box which was in the apartment pantry. Beautifully made tools which are nothing like the junk you see today. my father had them for 40 years and I suppose I will pass them along myself. I am the third generation to own them. Must be a class 5 fit because it was a bear to unscrew. Now the viso works as it should. All that is left is to find the other missing viso 3 so I can give it to my son. This extension is needed for correct operation on a plain M6 or M3 camera. I found a pic of the early viso 3 on Roger and Francis site and the original had a longer threaded screw and no extension piece that can get lost. Another Leica mystery solved. BTW, make a 23x34.5 mm mask with a 18x26 mm cut out and you can frame properly for an M8.
