Aperture M8 support - much longer to wait

I was at Focus on Imaging yesterday. One of the things I did was to sit in on an Aperture training session. It is a very nice program if only........I spoke to one of the guys and asked about DNG support.

In a round about way I think what he was saying is that Aperture is developed on a camera by camera basis. It doesn't matter if it is DNG or RAW. Also, I doubt this gentleman is on the development team.

 

I am sitting in the lobby of a Hilton Las Vegas waiting for the first Leica "Take it to the Max" workshop. I will let eveyone know how it goes.

 

If you guys read the website, the computers supplied are Apple. These computers were supplied by Apple and not the outsourced company (I think they are called Digital Imaging). Do you think this melding is simply serendipity?

 

To defend Apple, Leica was very late in getting a camera to the development team and had numerous issues (and still has issues) with firmware. Should Apple be responsible for buying every camera that comes on the market? Could they have gotten an M8 if they wanted it? If Leica was so aware of the IR issue, why weren't filters supplied with the camera? I believe it was members of this very Forum that brought the issue forward to Leica.

My point is that Leica has everything to do with the slow support of Aperture. Cheers!

I'm sure that Apple and Leica are working hard to get M8 and Aperture live together as best as they can. When they (Apple and Leica) will be satisfied, Aperture will show M8 official support.

 

I would like add that I have used Lightroom for 9 months seeing how it was getting slower as the betas were growing. Using LR beta 4.1 and Aperture 1.5.2, I can say that sometime LR is faster, sometime (fewer) it is Aperture. Anyway not so much difference. I have just downloaded LR ver 1.0 and, from the very beginning, I do not see any great speed improvement. The B&W "developing" appear to be overall better (for my taste) in Aperture. Probably the personal taste plays an important role even in other fields, such as user interface.

For me (PowerMac G5, dual 2.5 GHz, 3GB RAM, GeForce 6800 GT, lotsa drives) Lightroom 1 is noticeably faster than beta 4. Just browsing is so much nicer, and applying tweaks to images as well.

Also begs the question is Leica co-operating with apple? What does Leica do for Apple to make it worthwhile?

 

Why should Leica do soemthing for Apple ? Apple sells their software and earns the money, its their job !
