Its already been mentioned here and on the Leica web site that purchasers of Leica D3's can claim a new, small Billingham Bag from Leica.

However, in last week's AP Wilkinson's Cameras also had the following in addition to the D3 bag offer.

Trade in a camera against a D3 for a minimum trade in allowance of £200. (Presumably that old Brownie 127 could be worth £200?)

Against a V-Lux 1 there is a £100 minimum trade in.

Anyone know if this is an official Leica offer or just from Wilkinsons based in Lacashire?

There is no mention of it on their web site, or wasn't when I looked the other day.

Why I ask is I did receive by post from Leica a letter offering enhanced trade in agains sport optics.

(Having registered a pair of Ultravids last summer I don't think I'll be rushing out to invest in another pair! )

So, less than 4 months in, we know the D-Lux 3 is doing well, a stylish camera with bling. OTOH, these trade-ins and free-bag offers - a discount in all but name - suggest the D3 and V-Lux 1 are proving slow sellers.

I'll be honest. I'm no fan of 4/3, an unadventurous standard when it was launched, still less now. If you were planning to spend £1800 on one of these things, why would you not buy a better performing Nikon D200 or the Canon equivalent and then take immediate advantage of a huge range of lenses, flashes, accessories?

Similar story with the V-Lux 1. What added value is there compared to the Panasonic equivalent and even if it exists at all, does the average punter care?
