LotharZhou Posted February 14, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted February 14, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just walking down the streets in central Hongkong yesterday, passing by this leica shop near the soho area, very suprisingly they have almost all Leica lens in stock, displaying the chrome summilux50, the 35 f1.4asph, all kinds of summicrons, price is a little higher than UK, around 2-300 pounds more. Â Something I can't explain. You never suppose to find them in shops, are they?

You never suppose to find them in shops, are they?  I think your pricing might be a little on the low side. Yes, you can find Leica lenses all over Hong Kong, but the last time I checked on a 35 Summilux ASPH FLE the price was about £2300 over list price. Of course more common lenses, like the 35 Summicron ASPH don't command such a premium.
pig882009 Posted February 14, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted February 14, 2012 Try the Laica shop in KL, Malaysia. They have all lens avaiable at reasonable price.
StephenPatterson Posted February 14, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted February 14, 2012 Try the Laica shop in KL, Malaysia. They have all lens avaiable at reasonable price. Â Are you sure about this? There are three Leica owned shops in Hong Kong, and when I was there a few weeks ago none of them had any M mount lenses in stock. Â It would be extremely unusual to find a Leica owned shop with a Noctilux or 35 Summilux FLE in stock and available for purchase.

It is a new shop opened only few months ago. When I was there, they have all M lens on display. If you do not mind a display (but still brand new) lens, you can purchase right away.  The listed price is pretty good given that you dont need to wait. Â If you did this you would rapidly just have a nice room with pretty red shelves where you could have a cup of coffee and look at the pictures on the walls...... maybe KL is rather unusual.... Â I often drop into Leica Mayfair ... more in hope than expectation ... but at least they have some things you can play with even if the stock cupboard is bare .... Very nice little shops with lots of pretty red shelves stocked with X1, D-Lux and V-Lux cameras. You could also find a book or two (Puts Compendium) that a store clerk had put in the case, probably to take up space. This is why I was stunned last year when Leica decided to open a THIRD Leica Store at the airport. Just like the other two, it has almost zero stock.  A visit to a Leica Store in Hong Kong is like the Cheese Shop sketch from Monty Python.  But what a lovely shade of red... theflyer Posted February 15, 2012 Share #9 Â Posted February 15, 2012 It's quite possible the OP is referring to Tin Cheung, a camera shop near Soho that carries a variety of hi-end camera gear, including Leicas. And I agree with Seafury- the HK Leica stores seem like a bit of a waste as they are located in prime real estate with zeo inventory.
StephenPatterson Posted March 7, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted March 7, 2012 Just an FYI that I was in Shanghai on a brief layover last weekend and stopped by the Leica Store on Nanjing Road West. This is a factory owned store, small but nice. In the display cases were a chrome 50 Summilux ASPH, 21 Super Elmar M, 35 Summilux FLE, 24 Summilux ASPH, Noctilux, 90 APO, etc. All had price tags. All were samples and not available for sale. In fact they had no M lenses in stock. Zero. Â The Noctilux was 87,700 RMB, or just less than $14,000 USD. This of course is the after import tax price from mainland China. The salesman told me that they have sold one Noctilux in the last year (the only one they received). Â It seems the worldwide shortage of M lenses continues, at least in Shanghai at MSRP from Leica.
jaques Posted March 8, 2012 Share #11 Â Posted March 8, 2012 weird beyond description. Elite stores in prime real estate: either they have lenses but cannot sell them- or they have no lenses at all... And Leica plans to build hundreds more stores..??? I am guessing they must plan to massively increase lens production? Must be strange to work in a store and send customers away every day.... One imagines there must be huge losses involved in this process?
