Paul986 Posted February 26, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm expecting that the M8 will be included by mid year 2007. Does anyone know if the handgrips have been included in terms of selecting the leather type?
Advertisement Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Hi Paul986, Take a look here A la carte for M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted February 26, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 26, 2007 Is this date estimate based on knowledge or wishful thinking?
Paul986 Posted February 26, 2007 Author Share #3 Â Posted February 26, 2007 Mark, that's the advice from the Australian distributor. Why wouldn't Leica include the M8? I'm sure its only a matter of time. Â I'd like to know if the leather material could be specified on the handgrip as well as the body itself under the program for the film Ms. Â Paul
wattsy Posted February 26, 2007 Share #4  Posted February 26, 2007 I'd like to know if the leather material could be specified on the handgrip as well as the body itself under the program for the film Ms.  I doubt it. The current à la carte programme doesn't allow you to specify the material for the motor-M (which, apart from the motor components, is a very similar design to the M8 grip) or the standard M grip. johnastovall Posted February 26, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted February 26, 2007 I would hope with Hermes gone that Leica would focus on camera production and not bother with 'a la carte.' That whole program lead to a mind set at Leica that I think hurt it's focus on technology. Â I don't want an M8 with red Komodo dragon skin leather on it made out of impossiblium but want a qualilty basic product without filters.
sparkie Posted February 26, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted February 26, 2007 i wouldn't mind a black paint option with leica engravings, & sans red dot. and vulcanite covering. call me old fashioned
marknorton Posted February 26, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted February 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Someone I met at Photokina was showing off his black paint MP in red leather. It looked awful. Â I agree with John that the existing a la carte programme was a prime example of Leica management taking their eye off the ball an act of desparation to do something, anything to stave off bankruptcy. If they do the same with the M8, I would be the first to say, "hey, what about fixing the white balance, the high ISO noise, the easy-to-scratch screen, the noisy shutter, the....? When you've done all that, then you can go and play with your aligator skin..." Â If I was an R user without a current digital solution and an incomplete previous one, I'd feel rightly aggrieved if Leica were to start messing in this area anew. Â Speaking of adorning your camera with the hides of rare species, I actually have an issue with the whole "Hunting Optics" thing on the Leica web-site. The only difference between nature observation and hunting is your objective for looking in the first place. Â That said, I do like to eat pheasant and venison so there may be a touch of hypocrisy there...

preston Posted February 26, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted February 26, 2007 Well, I for one would sure like a lower magnification finder option that is better optimized for the 24mm lens. If that only comes in a la carte form, then I'm all for a la carte.
carstenw Posted February 26, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted February 26, 2007 I think if Leica would simply offer a gloss black paint version of every camera, with no logo and various viewfinder magnifications, that most of the "rest" of us would be happy. No need for red and blue lizard skin.
