Hey everyone

I got a great chance to get a very cheap Konica hexar in mint condition with the 28mm and 50mm lenses, my current gear is a leica m8 /m6 and leica 50mm summicron and voigtlander 35mm 1.7 ultron. I made the switch to the digital m8 non long ago and i am really missing a 35mm lens for more depth of field and easier zone focusing, so i was thinking of buying the set and then sell the konica hexar and the 50mm hexanon and the Leica 50mm summicron, since i really do not use it much. My question would be of any experiences with the 28mm hexanon-m lens on the m8 and or on film. I am thinking it should be a fine lens like most rangefinder m mount lenses, and it would be great for my photography to have a 35mm equivalent on both of my cameras. My biggest concern is that the hexanon 28mm is not 6 bit coded, anyone have any thoughts on that? and i also read something about it bringing up wrong viewfinder lines on digital m which is a deal breaker for me.

I could always just sell the hexanon 28mm and then i would have profit from the sale, if i would end up doing that then i would be looking at the CV lenses or ZM 28mm lens, still i am a bit concerned about the 6 bit coding, for my ultron i got a adapter that i can code but i dont see the need for it yet so i have left it uncoded, just in case i buy another 35mm one day and it actually needs the 6 bit coding. I cant afford the 28mm leicas, and i dont care for shallow depth of field for the majority of my photography and i would always be able to use the 35mm ultron on my m8 if needed.

Any help & comments is much appreciated,

Thanks!

Hello,

I am not a definitive source on this, but iirc the Konica RF mechanicals are slightly different than the M one and there is the potential for focusing errors.

At any rate, I do know Konica's Hexanon lenses are quite nice. Back in the film days a friend had them as one of his outfits and the Ektachromes were very very nice. His image content was boring as hell, but that was on him and not the lenses!

Consider sharing in the M8 Photography thread if you get something nice from your Hexars.

The first 28mm Hex I had did not focus correctly on my M8. The second one I have not tried yet on any M body.

All no problem, DAG camera adjusts them for the M8, if needed. Most samples seem to be fine anyway. If you have the chance to try them first, all the better, if they are really cheap, you can just swallow the cost of DAGs service.

oh, btw, all Hexanons I have (28, 50, 90) are amazing. I sold my 90 M-Elmarit after having the 90 adjusted.

I now just have Hexanons, no Leica lenses for me anymore :)
