Advertisement Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Hi Annibale G., Take a look here Series M black finish to Silver finish. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bill Posted February 1, 2012 Share #2 Posted February 1, 2012 I'm really not trying to be funny, but I would have thought that the most logical and cheapest option would be to sell the black one and buy a silver one instead. Regards, Bill
andybarton Posted February 1, 2012 Share #3 Posted February 1, 2012 Bill's right. I will most likely cost you getting on for half the cost of a good condition, second-hand replacement. Leica will do it for you (and rub their hands in glee, I suspect)
masjah Posted February 1, 2012 Share #4 Posted February 1, 2012 Black and silver are made of different metals (to take the plating I think brass vs aluminium, hence the specified weight difference). Thus conversion would involve replacing all the metal body, which, though theoretically possible, is practically a bit silly. Do as Bill says I think! Annibale G. Posted February 1, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted February 1, 2012 mm I see. I supposed would be possible just changing the top plate and parts on top of it. A.
tobey bilek Posted February 2, 2012 Share #6 Posted February 2, 2012 I think the top and bottom are back to brass base metal with M7 or M6TTL. Should be just an interchange then. You don`t even need a screwdriver for the base.
masjah Posted February 2, 2012 Share #7 Posted February 2, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ooops!!! I had a seriously senior moment; please ignore what I said, I was confusing body materials with lenses. Sorry!
Annibale G. Posted February 2, 2012 Author Share #8 Posted February 2, 2012 so will be possible to do that, is it right? A.
andybarton Posted February 2, 2012 Share #9 Posted February 2, 2012 It is possible to do, but it is expensive. Unless your camera has sentimental value, it would be cheaper to trade your black one for a chrome one. Ask for a quote from Leica CS
250swb Posted February 2, 2012 Share #10 Posted February 2, 2012 You could ask Leica do swap top and bottom plates. Or you could have the black plating stripped off and the top and bottom plates and any other suitable components re-chromed in silver. But it would be cheaper to sell it and buy another. jpattison Posted February 2, 2012 Share #11 Posted February 2, 2012 Don't forget that an M9 to M9-P upgrade can be done from black M9 to chrome M9-P. It's worth asking Solms, they should have the chrome top units in stock. John
