FrozenInTime Posted January 30, 2012 Share #21 Â Posted January 30, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Out of interest, what iso setting did you use for that photo? Was it an M9? Â M6 Kodak Portra 400 push 1 ; probably 1/60s @ f/1.4 Â I was back in Edinburgh over Christmas ( currently living in the US ) - so had a quick look around the newly refurbished Chambers street museum: they have done a very good job of it. Mauribix Posted February 21, 2012 Share #22  Posted February 21, 2012 The target group (there will always be exceptions, of course) are not photographers but rich gear collectors. Or am I the only one who has not yet seen one interesting picture taken with one of these lenses?  Lars, obviously you've never seen my friend Riccis' work with that lens.  Flickr: Riccis Valladares / Fine Art Documentary Wedding P's Photostream  Riccis Valladares | Fine Art Wedding Photography | Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Miami,San Francisco  Jasse Lirola's work with that lens is amazing too. A pleasure for the eye.  Flickr: j_lir's Photostream   I know your posts, which I really appreciate every time, but in this case, you're totally wrong IMHO. The fact that most of the leica userectors ( =user-collector) just take snaps of puppies and grandchildren with expensive glasses doesn't mean those lenses are useless or dedicated to rich gear collectors mostly.  my2(000€)cent:)
Mauribix Posted February 21, 2012 Share #23 Â Posted February 21, 2012 My only concern is that it will end up like the 21/24 Lux -- never used by wonderful photographers because they're so exorbitant -- in price, size, wieght, obtrusiveness. Â Â Well, I can't really understand this kind of statement. Â In the end, I've always seen the best lenses ever made used by the worst photographers/amateur in the world too. Â I don't think there's an "exception lens", i.e. a lens that when you see it, you suddenly think "Oh, Gosh, he/she's a wonderful photographer". Â Even if most of the lucky owners of the 35 and 50 summilux ASPH's tend to think so of themselves.

Actually, there ARE such lenses. When you see a photographer wielding a worn and dinged up camera and lens combo, PLUS a portfolio of stunning images to boot, then that's when we have met a wonderful photographer. I don't think so. I've seen people carpentry sand their cameras to look like "experienced" photog. (some did show their "aged" cameras here as well).  Most talented photographers, as we know, could use anything to create stunning images. I still believe that it's the man that counts, before any camera/or lens. Then again, with some glasses, some photog can achieve even better height. But it's still up to them.

Agreed, and don't get me wrong, I had the emphasis on the 'portfolio' rather than just the camera gear itself.  Having said that however, I have indirectly admitted to being a poor photographer: nearly pristine gear and no portfolio to show. But I'm working on it! I keep telling myself that there will be more time for photography when I retire, but retirement is a long time away!
