stickan1 Posted January 27, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted January 27, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought a second hand Ricoh GRX with the M-module this week. I have soon sold all my DSLR gear so I want a backup. I also had the ideas to use it with my Tele Elmar 135/4. Focusing was not so easy as it seemed when I was playing with the camera at home. It takes practice. Anyway this one came out ok, many others didn't. But it is a nice little camera that is well built. I used ISO1250 at f4 and 1/310 sec. Advertisement Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Hi stickan1, Take a look here European Dipper. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 28, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted January 28, 2012 Is the snow really that blown out on the original file? Maybe you can pull some detail back with highlight recovery.
pauledell Posted January 28, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted January 28, 2012 Stig, Â A pleasant looking shot but I agree with Jaap about the snow but adjusting the tone might be tricky. You still want the snow to be white. Â Paul
stickan1 Posted January 28, 2012 Author Share #4 Â Posted January 28, 2012 Thanks for your comments; Jaap and Paul. The original was not blown out, far from it, but I chose to make the snow white. It always a tricky choice with snow. I increased the exposure with 2/3 EV. Here is the original version: Â
jaapv Posted January 28, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted January 28, 2012 Never make highlights 255 255 255. That is the same as paper white. Could you try to pull down highlight recovery, increase brightness and pull in the blacks again in ACR ? That will gain detail in the snow whilst keeping the whiteness. stickan1 Posted January 28, 2012 Author Share #6 Â Posted January 28, 2012 Thanks for your comments Jaap. I went back to the original DNG-file and reprocessed it. I never used highlight recovery in Lightroom, but I was doing something in Sliver Efex. This is the original file with +1/3 eV exposure and some local brightness and sharpening around the bird, all done in LR. Considering that it was shot at ISO 1250 I think it is a rather god file. I will take the GXR out for a walk this afternoon. Â
thighslapper Posted January 28, 2012 Share #7 Â Posted January 28, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have to say I prefer the first you posted..... Â at the end of the day it's the bird thats the subject not the snow.... Â having it as a featureless white background enhances the foreground imagery ...... k-hawinkler Posted January 28, 2012 Share #8 Â Posted January 28, 2012 Interesting though the different whites achieved. Nice image. Â K-H.
