piblondin Posted January 27, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted January 27, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) If I were to buy a used M9 with an unfilled registration card, does that mean that I would get the warranty? It's my understanding that Leica's warranty only applies to the original owner.

kokoshawnuff Posted January 27, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted January 27, 2012 Leica warranties are non-tranferable in the US, don't know about Europe or Asia though
k-hawinkler Posted January 27, 2012 Share #3  Posted January 27, 2012 Leica warranties are non-tranferable in the US, don't know about Europe or Asia though   Isn't that only true for Leica USA? I don't think it applies for Leica Germany.  I am sure if Jaap sees this he has the definitive answer.  K-H.
jaapv Posted January 27, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted January 27, 2012 Leica factory warranty is worldwide and transferable, Leica USA seems to be not. I don't know if anybody tried, but it may well be that if one should get refused guaranty by NJ that Solms may extend it. One would need proof of original purchase, that is for sure. The whole guaranty business is rather convoluted, as it is governed both by national consumer law and (unknown to the consumer) agreements between Leica and its distributors. For instance, when I dropped my M8 years ago, Leica told me they billed leica UK for the repair, as the camera was under UK passport, but all factory recall and other guaranty work appeared to be handled by Solms internally. When I lost all paperwork for a DLux4, Leica did not insist on registration, but looked up the factory records to see whether the date of production was within the guaranty period, etc. So to summarize, should you need guaranty-type of work and if you are a second owner in the USA it may be well worth your while to send the camera directly to Solms with the original bill of sale but I cannot promise it will work. masjah Posted January 27, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted January 27, 2012 S far as I can see there are two questions here: Â (1) Is a warranty trasferable (2) Can I get a full warranty on a used M9 simply because the card has not been returned, and can therefore still be returned. Â I suspect that the second question is the one in the mind of the OP. I can only say that, when I have returned the card to register new purchases for warranty purposes, in the UK, Leica required a proof of purchase date from the dealer (either dealer stamped and dated on the card, or a copy of the dealer receipt, or both). M. Valdemar Posted January 27, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted January 27, 2012 I bought a demo M9 from a Leica dealer in the USA which had no registration card at all. Â They told me it had two year Leica warranty and they confirmed it in writing on the receipt with the camera. Â I called Leica NJ to confirm when I got the camera, and they told me that, yes, there was a two year warranty. Â I have not had to use the warranty after a year with this camera and about 12,000 actuations, but I would never have bought this camera without a warranty. Â I don't know how they figure out warranty eligibility.
znej Posted January 27, 2012 Share #7 Â Posted January 27, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Was in same position as OP, I sent in the card and received 2 year coverage. I was never asked to send proof of purchase, but I did ask the original buyer for the approximate purchase date since I believe that is required on the card. Â So, my advice send it in, wait a month and call back and verify coverage.
