JE Posted February 24, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) To any and all, Well here I am after trying and failing, trying and succeeding...I am new to range finders not to mention a IIIF. Does anyone have some basic advice about framing, what/where should I be aiming. I seem to get most of what I want in the end, but I haven't found a method to this particular little madness. (Sorry if this isn't the right place to post....) Thanks in advance. Jonathan:)

earleygallery Posted February 25, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 25, 2007 Hi, I'd post your question in the Historica section if I were you. I use a lllf too, the viewfinder itself is fairly basic and I always allow for an amount of excess when framing a shot, i.e. I don't compose too tightly in the viewfinder. Also most 50mm lenses aren't actually 50mm. I find the viewfinder fairly accurate with the 5cm Elmar though. If you're shooting something fairly close up you need to bear in mind that there is no parralax correction and frame accordingly. Its just a case of trial and error - after a little while you'll do all of this automatically.
JE Posted February 25, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted February 25, 2007 Thanks James. What you've said makes sense. I just need to be more patient. Jonathan
earleygallery Posted February 25, 2007 Share #4 Posted February 25, 2007 Oh, and you could also try with a shoe mounted finder instead. Leica made one that also has parralax correction, and there's a russian copy available also. Or one of the newer Voigtlander finders maybe.
JE Posted February 25, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted February 25, 2007 Thanks. I think for now I'll just be focusing on learning how to frame through the viewfinder...when I get some money then....I'll keep you suggestions in mind though.
