My name is Gabe, I recently purchased an x1 with all the goodies and in mint condition on this forum. I hesitantly bought this because I have a DSLR, not a high end one, a Nikon d5000. I sent out the nikon for a cleaning so I wont get it back for a couple of weeks. Has anyone tried both? which of the two has better IQ? I really need to justify this purchase. She only has the kit lens, so of course the Leica at the 36mm equiv focal length is a lot better. Â To get the same focal length on the Nikon you'd need a good 24mm prime. Nikon currently sells four 24mm primes. Two of them are only manual focus. There are two that are autofocus, but one of them will not autofocus on the D5000 because it has no focus motor, it requires lenses that have a focus motor. Â So the one Nikon 24mm lens that will autofocus on the D5000 you own is a lot faster than the Leica lens, it's a 1.4 aperture, but it also retails at $1999. Â The sensors seem about the same for high iso performance. The X1 is a lot more fun to carry around. Â I'm one who tends to be freed up by a camera with a prime lens rather than limited. I tend to be lazy with a zoom. Most of my good shots have been with a Ricoh GRD, Fuji X100, now the X1 or a dslr with a prime as opposed to zoom lenses. As far as IQ is concerned, the X1 is on a par or better than the D300 and I find the sharpness, overall accuracy of the exposure, and colors much better than the D300. I shoot the D300 with the Nikon trilogy lenses (12-24, 17-55, and 70-200). Of course, the D300 setup is more versatile, but the convenience of the X1 is excellent.
