marknorton Posted January 20, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted January 20, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) We don't often get to talk about Leica's binoculars here but they are of course spectacular. Â I've recently found out, however, why I find them uncomfortable to use. The inter-pupillary distance can be set from 58 - 74mm which covers 98% of the population with just 1% at the extremities. You of course need to set them to match your eyes so that the image circle from each side combines into one. Â Turns out my eyes are a gargantuan, freakish (but you already knew that, didn't you?) 79mm apart which explains why my Duovids are less than comfortable to use. An email to Leica Solms to ask if they can do any changes has gone unanswered. Â Does anyone else here use Leica bins and find they don't open wide enough? jaapv Posted January 20, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted January 20, 2012 As you know people with a criminal tendency have their eyes close together.. 64 here.
cocker Posted January 20, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted January 20, 2012 Fortunately, I have the same problem. I understand George W Bush doesn't use Leica Binoculars for the opposite reason to us.

giordano Posted January 21, 2012 Share #5  Posted January 21, 2012 NEDDIE SEAGOON: Not one step nearer, Bloodnok or I’ll put a bullet between your eyes.  MAJOR BLOODNOK: I didn’t know they made them that small.   PS: my old Zeiss 6x20s adjust from 37 to 73mm. Guest Posted January 22, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted January 22, 2012 Jaap, How much more of a warning to members, who don't abide to the Forum rules about your determination to enforce them Wonder where this "saying" comes from - other than from your invention? Maybe they could slip between (slightly bent) prison bars? Â Anyway my Opmi's set at 73mm. Â Terrific 3D vision at 79mm! Â Got a Dialyt 8x56B T* 25 years ago. A very experienced hunter in Eastern Europe asked for it, willing to pay for it "as much as it is, regardless". So I bought him one and took it there on my next (and last) visit. When he saw the dealer's invoice, he acted insulted, telling me about prices of CZ Jena... so I took it home. Hunting was, like diving back then, a one year obssesion. It's very useful at sports events, Verona, rock concerts etc. ever since. Â The reason I mention it is, that I took off the 2 rubber sleeves on the lower - the wider half of it. This way it is more compact when folded during transport in the inner jacket's pocket and this enough of an advantage to disregard my design barbary. Made it even morecompact by working on the centre connection, so the 2 monoculars it is made out of fold now as close together as they can, without the original rubber sleeves on. Â Maybe the Leica binoculars could be turned into non-collectibles in a simmilar way. My Dialyt goes all flat, with the mbp way over 80mm.
