MikeEvangelist Posted January 20, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted January 20, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) The new 50mm Summilux ASPH, which I've coveted since getting my M9, arrived Wednesday. After just one day I find myself in this remarkable Zen state - my camera bags no longer seem strangely un-filled, and my eBay watch list is empty. Very odd. anta Posted January 20, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted January 20, 2012 If that "odd" should turn into "unpleasant", give me a hint. I'll gladly take that burden from a fellow forumer's shoulder and give my M9-P that dream lens
k-hawinkler Posted January 20, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted January 20, 2012 Congratulations! It's a wonderful 50 mm lens, second to none! One of my favorites. Please show an image taken with it. Â Thanks, K-H.
Deliberate1 Posted January 20, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted January 20, 2012 Mike, enjoy! I got mine earlier this week as well. I know exactly what you mean. With the 50mm Summilux now in my lens quiver, I feel that the GAS has passed. But the hole in my life where lens lust once resided is disconcerting. It will, no doubt, be filled with some other object of my consumer affection. As you may have seen from my post, the lens hood on mine is balky when deploying/ retracting. Yours? 250swb Posted January 20, 2012 Share #5  Posted January 20, 2012 After I got my Summilux ASPH my GAS subsided,.... for a while. What else is there to do, I've got the sharpest lens available so its not like I can't make a sharp picture with it if I wanted to! But of course thats not enough, so I renewed my search for grungy lenses, lenses that have the character the Summilux lacks with all its perfect this and amazing that.  "Ring the bells that still can ring Forget your perfect offering. Yours? Â Mine is not brand new, it's a mint used version. If anything the hood on mine is a tiny bit looser than I would prefer.
asmith Posted January 20, 2012 Share #8 Â Posted January 20, 2012 Do you have the 35 Summilux Asph Fle, the 18 Super Elmar, the 21 Super Elmar? If not, GAS will surely return. Alwyn
wda Posted January 20, 2012 Share #9 Â Posted January 20, 2012 Mike, well done! One piece of advice: Ignore all who pose as Devils to tempt you! algrove Posted January 20, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted January 20, 2012 Once you own a 1.4, you yearn for more 1.4. That's what got my GAS going again. Then there is the f1.0 GAS and then the f0.95 GAS, etc.
MikeEvangelist Posted January 20, 2012 Author Share #11 Â Posted January 20, 2012 Once you own a 1.4, you yearn for more 1.4 Â If they made a 28mm Summilux, the g.a.s. would surely return.
fWord Posted January 21, 2012 Share #12 Â Posted January 21, 2012 If they made a 28mm Summilux, the g.a.s. would surely return. Â Why wait for the 28mm Lux? Return to GAS and buy the 28mm Cron!
Ecaton Posted January 21, 2012 Share #13 Â Posted January 21, 2012 Once you use the asph, the little voice in you will tell to try the pre-asph, as it renders differently. An there you go again...........! And then there is the desire to go light and compact, which asks for this stellar Elmar 50 f2.8, which can be had for a bargain. And lastly, trying to master the focus shift beast, the ZM Sonnar 50mm, is something every advanced m-shooter owes himself. The Sonnar will reward the efforts with a unique rendering. An M shooter can't have too many 50mms:D.
Ralf Posted January 21, 2012 Share #14 Â Posted January 21, 2012 Why wait for the 28mm Lux? Return to GAS and buy the 28mm Cron! Â Agreed, the 28 cron is a terrific lens
kdriceman Posted January 21, 2012 Share #15 Â Posted January 21, 2012 That happened to me..complete remission after I got the Summilux 50 ASPH. after about 6 weeks, I concluded my current printer could not do the lens justice. GAS came back as I now have a shiny new Epson 3880. It's incurable I'm afraid.
MikeEvangelist Posted January 21, 2012 Author Share #16 Â Posted January 21, 2012 Why wait for the 28mm Lux? Return to GAS and buy the 28mm Cron! Â I love my 28mm ASPH Elmarit. I'll keep that until there is a 1.4, rather than upgrading to a Summicron.
Jamie Roberts Posted January 21, 2012 Share #17  Posted January 21, 2012 I love my 28mm ASPH Elmarit. I'll keep that until there is a 1.4, rather than upgrading to a Summicron.  Ahhhh you haven't *used* the 28 Cron ASPH, clearly  Just kidding, but they truly are day and night different lenses. If they do make a 1.4 28, I'll stick with the 'cron It's one of the best Leica makes IMO, and that's saying something.  Now, if they were to update the 75 Lux. Sigh...... swamiji Posted January 21, 2012 Share #18  Posted January 21, 2012 Wait a minute. Saying a 28mm Elmarit is different than a 28mm Cron is like saying, My 50mm Cron (Rigid) is different than My 50mm Elmarit, or My 50mm Noctilux, or My MATE....  I am doomed  Now when will I find a 50mm Summilux ASPH FLE? ARGH!!!

MikeEvangelist Posted January 21, 2012 Author Share #20  Posted January 21, 2012 Indeed. Unhappily the weather here in Minnesota has turned to complete s**t, with temps around 5-10° below zero (that -23° C for those in the more enlightened parts of the world.)  Not much fun wandering around with a camera this week.
