Humpty Posted January 19, 2012 Share #1  Posted January 19, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone,  I got myself a Leica X1 in the post today Bought it second hand on Ebay. Mint condition though...  After playing around with it and testing it this morning, I thought I'd go ahead and install the firmware update.  I have followed all the instructions, word for word but nothing happens. I simply get no MESSAGE on the screen asking me to confirm. I have searched this forum and read through various threads and tried the tips and suggestions that you guys have offered to people with a similar problem. Still nothing.  Just to confirm, I have tried:  - Reformatting my SD card - Trying a different SD card - Connecting via USB cable and also the memory card reader - Making sure the file is in the correct, root directory. - Making sure the file is the X1-V20.upd file.  The only thing I haven't yet tried is doing this whilst my battery is 100% full. I mean, it was full when I tried the installation - just not 100% full. It's charging right now, so I will give it a go in a few hours.  The only other thing I can think of is to buy a new SD card and start with a fresh one. I really don't want to have to do this as I have enough SD cards and don't want to waste money on other one.  I'm beginning to think that I might have the same problem as this guy:  http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-x1-forum/206139-firmware-update-problem.html  I guess if that is the case I'm going to have to send it back to the Ebay seller for a refund. Luckily he does offer a refund service.
Advertisement Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Hi Humpty, Take a look here Finding it impossible to install the Firmware update v.2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 19, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted January 19, 2012 If you are on mac and downloaded or unzipped the file more than once, OSx will add a digit to your .upd file, ie .upd.1 , .upd.2 etc.. as soon as that happens, the camera will not recognize the file. You can either correct the file name on your SD card or delete all .upd files on your computer and start again. Â Oh- and welcome to the forum
Humpty Posted January 19, 2012 Author Share #3  Posted January 19, 2012 Hi jaapv, thanks for the reply  Yes I am on a mac and I've made sure that .upd filename is as it should be and no multiple installations have taken place.   Going to try the installation again on a 100% battery and if that doesn't work, I guess there's nothing else I can do. wda Posted January 19, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted January 19, 2012 Humpty, welcome to the forum and wishing better success with your X1. Just a thought, what firmware standard is installed already? Maybe it is up-to-date and doesn't recognise a need to update further. Â Does the camera perform otherwise, as it should?
Humpty Posted January 19, 2012 Author Share #7  Posted January 19, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sooo...I tried the whole thing again on a 100% full battery.  Nothing. Still the same problem.  Don't know what to do really. Trying to figure out if there's any point keeping the camera if I can't upgrade the firmware.  Humpty, welcome to the forum and wishing better success with your X1. Just a thought, what firmware standard is installed already? Maybe it is up-to-date and doesn't recognise a need to update further.  Does the camera perform otherwise, as it should?  Hi Wda, thanks for the welcome  According to the camera, the current firmware is 1.0  The camera seems to be otherwise performing as it should, I think. But then again this is the first Leica I've ever owned or even handled, so who knows!  I did a fair amount of research on the X1 before deciding to take the plunge and get one, and I was well aware that this Firmware upgrade is a must for the X1. andybarton Posted January 19, 2012 Share #8 Â Posted January 19, 2012 If you have followed Leica's instructions to the letter, take it to your nearest authorised dealer and ask for their help. They will be very willing to do so.
Humpty Posted January 19, 2012 Author Share #9 Â Posted January 19, 2012 Thanks Andy. Might just do that. Â Hope it won't cost much to have them check it out. If it does, I guess I could mention it to the ebay seller and have the costs reimbursed....
RockyIII Posted January 19, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted January 19, 2012 Maybe you could say, "I'd like to look at some camera bags. Oh, by the way, I have been unable to update the firmware on my X1. Can you take a quick look at that?" Â Rocky
