usm Posted February 24, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi again! I reported my problem with a vertical stripe trough some images already. Now I have a second problem: The camera freezes, like shutter doesn't work, screen menu doesn't work, no reaction at all even the on and off doesn't work. Only when I oben the bottom plate the camera reponse the warning that the plate is open. After I took out the battery and putt it in after a minute, the camera will work again. This hapens twice after shooting a lott off images. Â I am using a Transcend 2GB card! My question is: Who has a similar freezing problem and whitch SD-card where in use? Â Thanks Mario

Giulio Zanni Posted February 24, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 24, 2007 I started to have the same problem since the camera returned from Solms after the upgrade. I use SanDisks Ultra II 2GB. However, I am not sure that the problem delens on the card. Â Giulio
robertwright Posted February 24, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 24, 2007 I have been using transcend 2GB 133x cards, my first M8 last week totally died, same symptoms as yours, but it never worked again. I exchanged it this week and so far, after about 48 hrs it is still working with no hiccups. Â I do notice that Transcend is NOT on the list of approved cards by Leica, however many people on this forum use them and my dealer recommended them. Don't know how the common wisdom came to assume Transcend was a good choice. Other than Leica's list, I have no way to judge so far. Â I think the freezing problem is either the switch or firmware. Leica indicated at first they wanted to fix my first dead horse by replacing the switch. Since we never got that far I have no idea if that would have solved the problem. masters Posted February 24, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted February 24, 2007 My camera has had a few problems since I got it about a month ago. It would'nt take exposures or turn off until I pulled the battery out. A few mystery pictures being overexposed. A couple of Horizontal dark band at the top of the frame with 30 second exposures. All of these have been minor but on friday the camera decided to start making a clicking whirring sound after each exposure . It would stop after a few seconds, but after a few more exposures it got to the point that the only way to stop it was to take out the battery. The camera is back at the dealer and i am waiting to hear if it will be replaced or sent back for repair. I am using a Sandisk extreme 3 card in the camera which has worked fine, but I did have one of the same cards refuse to work with the camera. It too was replaced by the dealer. My picture experience with the camera has been a joy and I'm sure it will continue to be once it is repaired or replaced. I hope that your camera gets back on track and stays that way. finkaudio Posted February 24, 2007 Share #5  Posted February 24, 2007 Hi,  I had a similar effect and it was my SD card causing the problem. I noticed that I got problems to read a few files in my card reader, so I decided it's easier to use a new card instead of having a dead camera. With the new card, works so far :-)   Best regards  KH
iomatic Posted February 24, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted February 24, 2007 So what are the recommended SD cards? Â On SLRs, the SanDisk Ultra series are very reliable. Is there any non-anecdotal info you folks know about? Â Thanks.
Dantist Posted December 3, 2007 Share #7  Posted December 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) My little add to this old thread  This early morning before leaving home, checked the M8 battery, in case of... ? Battery full, memory card (Sandisk 1 Gb Extreme III) full (0), wether emptied after last reading on PC. Hem...  Ok, let's start to format the card. Blinking red led for 8 minutes Read the manual's user Turn off the camera. No way, the screen is freezed. Take off the card. Same screen "Do you want to format SD card ? Yes !" Take off the battery. Yep ! The camera then is off.  Put back the card, the battery, turn on, everything seems ok.  This Sandisk SD card is only 2 months old. I'm afraid this could be the beginning of more serious disturbing adventures, which I hate to encounter. What can be your opinion on that problem ? How long can last a card before freaking ? By the way, should I make a report on Leica's website ? Regards, Michel
