darylgo Posted January 17, 2012 Share #1  Posted January 17, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had the good fortune of getting a good sample of the 50mm f1.1 lens, if my focus is spot-on the lens is sharp at f1.1, and only improves as I stop down. I had the lens attached to my camera on a 10 hour drive and subsequently the lens became loose. Playing with my now wobbly lens showed 4 screws that had loosened on the outer barrel, simply tightening these corrected the problem and the lens is solid. I have the option to return it for a refund. My question is: will other screws loosen as the lens gets more use, perhaps internal screws that I can not access? Thanks  Daryl
Advertisement Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Hi darylgo, Take a look here New Voigtlander 50mm Loose. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 17, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted January 17, 2012 It happened to me with a Summilux 75. I went over all my lensen with a torque wrench and found the tightness varied widely. So it is a general thing, not specific for CV. If your lens is fine and tight keep it that way. If you have the chance tighten all your mount screws to 25 Ncm. JeTexas Posted January 17, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted January 17, 2012 My 50mm f1.1 was great for about three months and then suddenly developed an inch of back-focus. I sent it to DAG for repair and he found an inner element had become loose. He repaired and adjusted it for $150. It's now sharper than when I got it. Â There's always the chance something may go wrong again, but there's really no alternative lens that can do f1.1 in the same price bracket. If I were you, I'd hold onto it. Â The screwdriver blade I used to tighten the head was slightly thicker than the slot but it bit well, torqued well. A finer screwdriver would make me feel more comfortable and I wasn't aware they are made with torque settings. Any recommendations on purchasing this? This lens is just plain fun, and it's imperfections often lend a uniqueness to the image I am unable to get otherwise (out of camera) such as the double tailed coma. Â I have several torque wrenches I use for dental implants but the head is specific for the implant screw from Nobel Biocare and Neoss, did you customize the head? I don't remember what I paid, otherwise I would put up a sad smiley also.
jaapv Posted January 18, 2012 Share #8 Â Posted January 18, 2012 IMZ has a flat-bladed screwdriver blade 2.0 it fits the slotted mount screws exactly and can be destructively modified for the crosshead screws. I stopped using IMZ (Frialit) in 1995 but I still have the tools.
