Picked up the lens yesterday from Camerawest. I waited 7 months. Shout out to Sean Cranor. The lens is definitely worth the wait. Build quality is exceptional. The lens feels great in hand and image quality on par or exceeds my old 50 Summilux. I am now shooting with the Noctilux and 35 Summilux and I dont feel the need for any other lenses.

I am using the S2 system for landscape.

That's the funniest thing I've ever read on the forum!!!!

My crystal ball says:

1. A 50 Summilux ASPH, for those times when the Nocti is too big and heavy

2. A 21 Summilux or Super Elmar M, the perfect wide angle compliment to a 35 Summilux.

3. An APO 90 Summicron, for that added bit of reach.

4. Maybe a WATE and Frankenfinder, for ultimate wide angle travel versatility.

I had the Summilux 21 and Summilux 50 and summilux 75. I traded them for the Noctilux and Summilux. I like this combo for light travel, candid portraits and street photos. The S2 has better IQ and the S35, S70, and S120 provide better IQ and weatherproofing for my landscape work. I'm not sure why that statement is "funny." Maybe the crystal ball needs some cleaning?

No offense intended, but most people who sell Leica M lenses tend to end up buying them again at some point in the future. Yes, the S2 has better IQ, but is a much larger and heavier camera than the M9. Most people would want at least one wide angle lens to take advantage of the full frame sensor, but your 35 / 50 combo is classic and nobody can fault that.

Cheers,

Someone finally got a 35 1.4 at Popflash so I move up to #4.

Email from Popflash on Jan. 25:

Brian,

Unfortunately, none of either lens(35 and 50 Lux). We've received 3-4 shipments of lenses this month, but the only lenses received were a 3-4 35mm Sumicron lenses, a couple 35mm Summait lenses, and a 28mm and 50mm Summicron, along with a few of the S@ lenses.

For the 21mm Super-Elmar, we currently have 4 deposits ($1000 minimum deposit), and we've received two of them so far, with the last one arriving just before Christmas.

Not sure what's going on with the Summiluxes. Leica knows the demand is much higher for the Summiluxes than Summicrons, and prior to Nov/Dec, the Summiluxes were arriving consistently, with the 35 and 50mm summicron lenses very few and far between.

We'll keep you posted, and feel free to keep checking in.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm not looking for this lens myself, but one of the authorized Leica resellers here has showed "1-10 in stock" of the SX 35 FLE for months  I think they should update the webpage more often :(

Yeah, Looks like deliveries are back on track. I'm no. 3 now. Started at about no. 9 I think back in Oct.

Also next in line for the 50 Summilux expected within the next few weeks. I think I started at no. 7 back in Oct. for that one. I like that Popflash gives me an update when they get a lens in.
