I use the Leica Universal Polarizing Filter. It has a sturdy hood and the filter can be rotated out of the way.

Anyone consider using the M60 with an Eye-Fi card and edit and review the photos on an iPad or iPhone? I love the haptics of this camera and I am planning to buy and use it.

I have had a completely different experience. I do own the Leica S and Nikon D800e. The D800E has less detail in the mid tones and tends to be very contrasty compared to the S. Exposure bracketing is difficult with the D800 and requires entering a complicated menu system. The auto and manual focus for LANDSCAPE is much more accurate on the S. I have had no issues with battery life. I use the Nikon for specialized situations such as sports, long telephoto, fisheye, and astophotography. The Leica S is far superior for landscape and studio work. Finally, I just returned from Iceland and I had noted some condensation on my LCD screens. Leica sent me a brand new loaner S within 48 hours. The postage and insurance was prepaid by Leica. Ben Ross, the western S rep, was on the phone with me directly as soon as he heard that I had a problem. I have owned Nikons for 30 years and I have never had service even close to this. I have no dog in this fight since I own both systems. JMHO

It really depends on what camera you are shooting with the lens. I don't miss the summilux with the M and the MM due to their higher ISO capabilities. If shooting with the M8, M9 or film, you will miss the summilux IMHO

I received the adapter today. It worked on the APO f2.8 400 from 9 ft to 140 ft. Excellent sharpness and contrast on the S. If the infinity focus can be adjusted, this will be the perfect solution for long telephoto shots on the S system.

Does anyone know who in the US can perform the lens modification? My adapter is still in customs. I have the APO f/4 280mm R and the modular f2.8 400mm.

It might be interesting to post the actual RAW images. That way other people can see the resolution and DR of the two cameras.

The first image also has more dynamic range. But the variables in processing will result in some bias with regard to outcome. You definitely will see differences in sharpness and DR with the monochrom when processing in Lightroom and when printing.

Assuming focus accuracy, image one would me the MM. There is shallower depth of field on a full frame sensor. The flower that is in focus is sharper. I have found that the most significant differences between the MM and the M9 converted to black and white is in the actual print. The down resolution images on the computer do not make the differences as evident. Anything printed at or above 17 x 22 inches would be immediately obvious.

Does anyone have any experience or insight with this adapter described on pages 60-62 of the 3/2013 issue of LFI magazine?

I did not want my post to become a debate on the merits of a paid subscription. Thie portion of Diglloyd's blog that this question appeared on is free. Longitudinal aberration is a physical fact, as noted in the above responses. I agree that Leica should address these concerns as I also am on the waiting list for the monochrome camera.

I originally posted this question to Lloyd Chambers. He had not yet tested the APO 50/2. His opinion was that ALL lenses by all manufacturers have this issue except for the Coastal 60/4 lens. There is no way to overcome this problem with a rangefinder other than focus bracketing. In my view, either a truly apochromatic lens, live view, or an EVF on a future Monochom M camera would correct this problem. Perhaps this is why the summacron 50/2 is being produced?

I was there in May and June. Both the camera and myself returned safely. I never felt threatened and the hotel security was excellent.You would be sorry if you didn't take your M9 as Cuba is a photographer's dream. A trip of a lifetime with the best street photography I have ever taken

I had the Summilux 21 and Summilux 50 and summilux 75. I traded them for the Noctilux and Summilux. I like this combo for light travel, candid portraits and street photos. The S2 has better IQ and the S35, S70, and S120 provide better IQ and weatherproofing for my landscape work. I'm not sure why that statement is "funny." Maybe the crystal ball needs some cleaning?

Picked up the lens yesterday from Camerawest. I waited 7 months. Shout out to Sean Cranor. The lens is definitely worth the wait. Build quality is exceptional. The lens feels great in hand and image quality on par or exceeds my old 50 Summilux. I am now shooting with the Noctilux and 35 Summilux and I dont feel the need for any other lenses. I am using the S2 system for landscape.

Will the new Lytro camera technology eliminate the need for this discussion? The company states that they have extreme low light capability with very shallow depth of field and the ability to focus the image in any location in post processing.

I have both. Ilove my m9 in all respects. But, the x 100 has much less grain at ISO's > 800. Also, the fill in built in flash on the x100 at night is far superior to the SF 24D on my M9. Maybe my opinion would change my mind if I had a Noctilux. But with summilux 21,50,and 75 mm, the x 100 is superior in very dark situations. In brighter situations, the x100 tends to suffer from glare, lacks sharpness wide open, and lacks the sense of depth that a Leica lens provides.
