jaapv Posted August 29, 2014 Share #21 Posted August 29, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) To elaborate on my earlier post: The absolute strength of your eye is not really the deciding factor. It depends on your ability to accommodate your eye in the range of 2 m (the virtual distance of the markings in the viewfinder) and the middle distance ( the distance most of your subjects are in). Neither your measured reading strength not your distance vision can yield an exact calculated diopter value. For instance my reading strength is + 3.5, my distance vision is - 0.25. I can focus perfectly (actually best) without glasses or diopter. A few years ago, when my reading strength was + 1.5, I needed a + 1.0 diopter. So the only way to determine which diopter you need is by going to your optician/optometrist and use his tryout glasses to determine the strength that fits your particular eye. Or, of course, order the whole Leica range and return the ones you do not need, but that will not endear you to your dealer.

tobey bilek Posted August 29, 2014 Share #22 Posted August 29, 2014 +1 will bring your distance to the required 3 feet. Use with your glasses. 3.5 to 4 + will be required without glasses and you will lose the astigmatism correction. I have no idea if the 1.35 is neutral or not. I "think" my 1.25 is and the 1.4 is not. Leica ones also have threads for diopters. I do not know about yours. The best thing is a trip to the drug store and check out the reader samples. This will also tell if you need to consider astigmatism.
orla Posted August 29, 2014 Share #23 Posted August 29, 2014 I’ve been through this - and all confusing treads... To finally come to the simple conclusion what I needed was a correction lens exactly as my reading glasses. In my case +2.0. That’s all!
tobey bilek Posted August 31, 2014 Share #24 Posted August 31, 2014 This is what happens when we buy on line and force the local B&M out of business. My local dealer used to carry this sort of thing
