A glimpse of the hotel rooms of Berjaya Beach Resort at Tioman Island. All with a glimpse of the sea. Each of the houses of the resort has four such rooms.

Usually, when we go to Tioman I have brought with me my 1Ds III and a 200 mm 2,8L II with both converters and a extension ring. Photographing birds, particularly. But also butterflies, apes and even snakes. This time we went for walks.

Tioman Island has been an important place to bunker water for the traders up through history. From the Chinese to the Dutch and British. Today fishing boats from Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam stop over to have a rest.

It's me that thinks that Tioman Island is such a beautiful place. Say 'when' - when you have got enough.

There is about two kilometer of road on Tioman. Of which half of it can be used by cars. The rest is a track at which only small motorbikes can go, at best. Here we are at the end of the road, at the ABC Beach Resort. Here runs a small creak with cool and fresh water coming down from the mountains. And a dirt track goes through the jungle to the next resort village.

That little island is special. It's called Renggis Island. It is famous for being a ideal snorkeling and diving site. But less known for that the local frigate birds roost here every night. Several hundreds of them come to roost every evening at 19.30 - sharp. Quite a sight.

This was the 10th time we stayed at Berjaya Beach Resort. The staff, we have known many of them since our first year, did all in their power to make it a comfortable stay. Like this surprise cake. The food at Berjaya Beach Resort is cross cultural, a mix of Malaysian, Indonesian, Thai, Chinese and Indian as here. And very good!

The monkeys (long-tailed macaque) is very much a part of life on Tioman. They pop-up everywhere. Here a alpha male negotiates a wire. Clever!

The first picture shows a housing standard that has been the standard in Malaysia as well as Indonesia etc. But this is now changing fast. Next picture shows the brand new houses built to attract teachers to the school at Tioman.

I almost forgot; our boat trip around Tioman Island. South on the iland we see what the locals call Twin Peaks, some well 650 meters above the sea level. The highest peak on Tioman is above 1000 meters.

About half way around we go ashore and walk up through the jungle to this waterfall. In the swealtering heat it is refreshing with a bath.

We had to tie up outside two Thai fishing vessels which we had to cross to get ashore. When my wife walked through there were load protests from the fishermen: It means 'bad luck' if women walk on the fishing nets. - Strange; it means the same thing here in Norway...

Æhum, sorry, guys!

Getting ashore at this tiny village on southern Tioman, I asked the locals in my best Malay; 'dimana stesen kreta api?' (where is the railway station?) - A great sucess, as you can see.
