stonearabiapix Posted January 3, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted January 3, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Happy New Year to all, Â It appears I am starting off on the bad note! Â My digital M is experiencing a shutter problem. At first I thought it was a complete failure, but after repeated tries the shutter will trip. Then it will give a "shutter blocked" and then a "shutter fault" read-out. Turning the camera off and then back on will sometimes get the shutter to re-cock, albeit very sluggishly. Sometimes the camera does not even need to be shut down, and the shutter will return, very inconsistent. Â After it resets it can give 4 or 5 proper sequences, or maybe 1or 2 of tripping and re-cocking, and than again it will give a shutter blocked-shutter fault warning. Then the cycle can start all over again. Â The camera has over 20,000 shots. And no, it has never been in for service. Â If anyone has a clue? I would be curious to get there opinion as to what is going on. Â Also, I am a working photographer and I seem to remember a thread about a faster repair service for professionals. I have been on site, and not seen anywhere to register as such. I have seen the extra dollar amount for faster service. Is this the new pro alternative? Â Thanks, Tim. StephenPatterson Posted January 4, 2012 Share #3  Posted January 4, 2012 Jaap's advice is 100% correct, but considering you're a professional wedding photographer in the US and not Europe (great website, BTW) it might make more sense to buy a 2nd M8 or M9 to use while you send your faulty shutter M8 to Leica NJ. I think Leica NJ typically need about 2-3 weeks for normal (i.e. non-expedited) repairs. This might prove more cost effective than paying expedited shipping to and from Europe, as well as expedited repair charges. It also gives you a backup, which as a wedding photographer you know how important that is.  I like the quote from your website, when discussing the art of wedding photography, that "the best way to capture all the emotions and events is a team approach". I feel the same is true of Leica M digital rangefinders, namely that the best approach, when failure is not an option, is a team approach of primary and backup body.  Stephen  Leica Camera AG - Service - worldwide network

stonearabiapix Posted January 4, 2012 Author Share #6 Â Posted January 4, 2012 Steven, Â Yea, the team approach is great, and yea, I did just purchase a backup M8u. I'd op for the M9, but my other team member say's NG! Still recuperating from three children in college! Â Thanks for the nice words about the site, good to hear.
