ejd Posted February 22, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is the Yorkshire Ouse, of course, not the Great Ouse. (Ouse, need I say, rhymes with booze, and not with house. But I suppose that is obvious to everyone.) Advertisement Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Hi ejd, Take a look here The Ouse at Swinefleet. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ejd Posted February 23, 2007 Author Share #2 Posted February 23, 2007 Maybe I should add....there are at least four Ouses in England. Besides the two mentioned above, there is also an Ouse in Sussex, and the Little Ouse in Cambridgeshire (which flows into the Great Ouse). Wikipedia is quite good on them. Thought you'd like to know! I know these two pictures are not particularly prepossessing. But I wanted to post them anyway. The view of Goole is one I have seen from that spot for the last fifty-odd years, but it was only last month that thought of taking a picture of it. cocker Posted February 23, 2007 Share #3 Posted February 23, 2007 John, Interestinmg pictures of a particular landscape. I think this is the Ouse with the Tidal wave isn't it - called an Ager or something like?
ejd Posted February 24, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted February 24, 2007 Keith, I wasn't sure if I'd heard of the Ouse having a tidal wave or not. But, according to Wikipedia once again, both the Ouse in Yorkshire and the Great Ouse have a tidal bore or 'eagre'. I suppose this happens only when conditions are right: spring tides, right wind and weather conditions, and so on. Thanks for your comments. All the best, John
