pico Posted January 5, 2012 Share #21 Â Posted January 5, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I buy from 'brick and mortar' dealers because they recognize me as a reasonable, polite and temperate customer who, if f*cked over I would simply say, "Here's my friend Guido who will deal with you now". It's about their survival against the modest cost of a Leica. (Guido, OTOH, is expensive.) Â

IWC Doppel Posted January 5, 2012 Share #22 Â Posted January 5, 2012 I would rather buy from Brick and Mortar dealers but they have so little, new and used stock ! Â I have no problem buying from any source, when I can get comfrotable with the individual. My gut has worked well to date and one rule I apply is anything that leaves you feeling uncomfortable sort before buying. I have walked away when there is inconsitency with commentary, history feedback etc. If someone is really 'polished' then they can fool anyone. Most aren't intelligent enough to fabricate over time. Â If there has been a forum user for months/years and comments posts, show consistency then I am as happy as a high ebay rating tbh. Â I have acquired a luvley 24mm lens from a forum seller and a luvley 35mm Leica from an ebay seller
Your Old Dog Posted January 5, 2012 Share #23 Â Posted January 5, 2012 If I were buying off of a forum like this one I would look at the sellers post count. If he's been around for awhile I would tend to trust them. No guaranteeing that of course but he isn't someone who just joined the forum to sting somebody. Many of these forum members know each other and I don't think they would want to be embarrassed by a poor transaction. JMOYMMV.
roguewave Posted January 5, 2012 Share #24 Â Posted January 5, 2012 I have bought & sold lenses & cameras from forum members on the forum. I have never encountered a problem. For the most part, all the sponsoring members have a tremendous base of knowlledge that any member can tap into. As an example, a purchased a Zeiss 21 from Jaap, one of the real tech gurus on the forum. The lens was in perfect shape and he was very generous in sharing his experience using the lens and providing a reliable & expert opinion about it's condition, use and short comings. Â You have a world of experience available to tap among the members here. Use it & feel confident. Also, it's wonderful to support the Forum's Buy & Sell, as you are insuring the health of the Forum, it's members & the wonderful camaraderie. Jump in, the waters just fine! Brighton1975 Posted January 5, 2012 Author Share #25 Â Posted January 5, 2012 Interesting thoughts and opinions. Â Well... I decided to go down the bricks and mortar of Manchester (England) route and buy a hardly used M9 for a good price from the highly regarded Stephens Premier. Â I probably won't be so reticent when buying 'cheaper' Leica items such as certain lenses but, for an investment that I will probably never make again, the risk factor is just too high for my comfort. Â For the record, I did investigate the seller and they've made no posts in the forums - it looks like they've just joined to sell their camera. Â And yes, there seems to be a decent level of camaraderie on this forum (a rare thing!). I hope to inspire, be inspired and learn from others here.
