jim_royer Posted February 22, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have two questions, at least for now, about my new M8 camera. First, can the display that shows at the top of the playback screen, showing the number of the photo, be disabled, or is that just a built-in feature I must get used to. Â Second question, I currently have Photoshop CS2. Will it open my raw images with the M8 or do I need to use Capture 1? Thanks for your help. wparsonsgisnet Posted February 22, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 22, 2007 Jim, Â 1. It is a built-in pain-in-the-butt feature that you will have to get used to. I asked some of the monsters here who have Leica's ear to make this while on black so that the silver does not interfere with the viewing of the pic. Â 2. You will do best at the moment to learn to use C1. Check out Jamie's thread that is the sticky at the top of every Forum page. It's about a 2-hour learning curve. You'll want Edmund's profiles, but Jamie's work very well. In fact, if you don't have filters, the ones you want are Jamie's.

Jim  On the second question, you can open the files in CS2 if you have updated to ACR 3.6.  On the first question, it should be in the instruction book somewhere, but looking through the menu I can't see any way to disable it. Jim  Lightroom also works well with the DNG files from an M8 and you can avoid the Photoshop/C1 dance most of the time.  Demo here:  https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?loc=en%5Fus&product=photoshop%5Flightroom
35mmSummicron Posted February 23, 2007 Share #5  Posted February 23, 2007 1) i believe aside from the obvious of showing the image number, the bar keeps the aspect ratio of the 35mm image ex: 2:3 in proportion to the LCD screen. so leica could take the silver bar out, but you would see a black bar instead when you are zoomed out to the full image.  hope this helps.    I have two questions, at least for now, about my new M8 camera. LJL Posted February 23, 2007 Share #6  Posted February 23, 2007 Second question, I currently have Photoshop CS2. Will it open my raw images with the M8 or do I need to use Capture 1? Thanks for your help. Jim  Jim, Actually, there is a recently released Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) update to 3.7 for CS2 and it incorporates newer profiles and many of the adjustment feature changes similar to Lightroom. So if you already have CS2, do the ACR update and it will work.  As some others have pointed out, ACR does not have the more cusomized profile adjustments that can allow you to work with any magenta problems if you do not yet have filters, as Jamie and Edmund and others have prepared to work in C1. You get C1LE with the M8. It is a good tool and worth loading and playing with to see if you like the conversions and workflow. If you have the time, it is well worth checking out.  LJ
