Digital Rev?

I think Hong Kong these days falls into that legal void of not quite British law, but not quite Chinese law.

I realize this isn't going to go anywhere with the legal system, and my only hope is that DigitalRev recognizes that having negative reports on LUF is not good for business. In the end however I doubt they will care. Their ebay feedback record isn't exactly stellar, and seems to reflect a similar pattern of selling items that they don't have.

I'm very glad I used American Express and not paypal for this transaction.

Hmm, just as I was planning to buy a 50mm Summilux from them. I guess their prices cannot be believed.

Stephen, real sorry to hear about your transaction with DR. You know that I bought the Summilux 50mm the same day you did - for the advertised price of $3600. It is now listed at $5580. I have not received the kiss off letter you did - nor have I received confirmation that it has been processed for shipping.

I glanced at DR's terms and conditions, and it appears that placing an order is little more than an offer to purchase. The acceptance is not final until some amorphous time of their choosing. That is not what I learned in law school about offers and acceptance. I have little faith that the 50mm Summilux will soon be hanging off my M9 - but we shall see.

Sorry David, but it appears we are in the same boat.

What I cannot understand is why DigitalRev would post prices they had no intention of honoring. What could possibly come from such action except acrimony and mistrust? I have no problem if they want to be like other HK shops and advertise impossible to find items at hugely inflated prices, but if this is DRs idea of how to create interest in their website I feel a change in marketing personnel is in order.

DigitalRev have recently launched a "social network" type forum, ala photography Facebook or some such nonsense. It might be interesting to place a few factual accounts of our dealings with this company.

I hope you receive your 50 Summilux, but in light of the "NEW" prices listed I would be very surprised if your order is not also cancelled.

Cheers,

Stephen

Same here!

No confirmation on shipping, nothing.

I cancelled a few days ago, but still haven't got my money back, But that has to do with Paypal. It says the payment has been cancelled and that the money is on the way back to my account. I guess that takes a few days. As always with Paypal.

I think DR i a load of BS. It seems like a professional company, with a great website.

It would be great to push a lawyer on them!

Did DR actually accept the Paypal transfer? I looked at my account which indicates that the transaction was authorized but not completed. It seems to me if they actually take you money, they owe you the lens. That is not some offer and acceptance abstraction.

I don't think they took the money. I think Paypal did. It says the transaction was cancelled, but the money went out of my aacount. Then Paypal keeps the money for a week or so. Think about all the interest they collect in on.

Perhaps DigitalRev's "celebrity presenter" Kai got drunk at the Christmas party and typed all the low prices into the computer.

Perhaps when you get over here, we can take a trip and visit them and find out what is going on?

Why don't you email them the link to this thread?

Reinforce the so-well-deserved bad press amongst a strong Leica community which has now had over 1600 hits and rising.

Isn't this the largest online Leica Forum?

I sent these scoundrels a note cancelling my order. Got a confirmation several hours later - the first actual response I actually received regarding order status.

That's because they're too busy painting M9's pink...

…..these scoundrels…...Someone above described

them as the HK B&H - I think not.

I think so, I had ordered a LEICA battery for my D-LUX 3 from

B&H roughly a year ago. Ordered from their web site. The image

was of a Leica battery. Their catalog number was Leicas part number.

The price was a llittle under $100 USD. So I ordered it. Those BAIT

and SWITCH CROOKS sent me a Chinese battery I could have purchased

from eBay for $20.00 USD. I'll never do business with them again. I have

since gone on to spend many thousand of dollars with other retailers

building a Leica M system. A Nikon D800 system will be next. I wonder

if they would care how much business they've lost from me. If they simply

hadn't cheated me on an inexpensive item the lions share of my photo

equipment would have been purchased from them.

I use the browser Safari with an Extension called "Invisiblehand". I typically

find what I want on B&H's web site. "Invisiblehand" will search the web in

the background and find the item at other web sites. This way I get the item

and price I want just not from B&H.

The Leica batteries are made in China. B&H are 100% reputable and couldn't be further from the classic Brooklyn bait and switch merchants. If B&H supplied a generic Chinese battery it would almost certainly have been done in error. Did the battery come in the black and silver packaging? Did you query it with them?

Yes, by far.

I'll therefore rephrase my original comment:):

I second that!

I've dealt with B&H for 15 years, both as a customer and as a supplier. I've even spent time in their offices conducting training for their sales teams (on one of my products that they were selling.)

I've been continually impressed with their very high business and ethical standards. In my experience, they treat their vendors and their customers with the highest respect.

If they shipped you the wrong thing, it was almost certainly an unintentional error.

Equating Digital Rev to B&H is ridiculous (imho).
