Clandrel Posted December 30, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted December 30, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Â I just found a 50 Summilux ASPH on their website, listed as "in stock". I bought it, payed with PayPal and received an email saying the lens would be shipped within 24 hours, and be in my hands between 3rd and 6th of january, with International DHL express. Â Do I have to worry that they just list it in stock, and really doesn't have it in stock? Â Anyone bought stuff from Digital Rev before? Advertisement Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Hi Clandrel, Take a look here Digital Rev?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted December 30, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted December 30, 2011 Well, it's not January yet... Â What makes you suspicious about them? Â Are they an official Leica Dealer?
Clandrel Posted December 30, 2011 Author Share #3 Â Posted December 30, 2011 Just found it a bit strange that they also has the Noctilux in stock...
andybarton Posted December 30, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted December 30, 2011 And those alarm bells didn't start ringing when you found someone with both 50 Summilux AND Noctilux lenses "in stock"? Â I sincerely hope your purchased lens arrives next week.
StephenPatterson Posted December 30, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted December 30, 2011 Just found it a bit strange that they also has the Noctilux in stock... Â Yes they have a Noctilux, but I believe it is priced about $4000 over list. I think they are reputable, and have many items in stock, but seldom if ever at MSRP. Â How much did you pay for the 50 Summilux ASPH? Â Stephen
Pablo Sanchez Posted December 30, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted December 30, 2011 I bought a Canon 60D and some lenses and accessories early in the year. They are quite a well known retailer and ship from Hong Kong. I received my gear in about 2/3 days and that was to England, really fast delivery
Clandrel Posted December 30, 2011 Author Share #7 Â Posted December 30, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I payed around $4500 which is quite high, but the same price as retail price here in Norway.
StephenPatterson Posted December 31, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted December 31, 2011 That's not bad for a 50 Summilux. I just visited their site again (I had not been there for several months) and actually some of their prices are quite reasonable. The Noctilux was only $800 over list, which is much less than any other dealer I've seen recently. Â We will find out together how reputable they are in a few days, as I just ordered the Noctilux... Â Oh, just sit there in crippling insecurity and worry your head until your head explodes or the days come about. If you don't see it by 7 or 8 January then you can whine as much as you like. Relax! danedit28 Posted December 31, 2011 Share #10 Â Posted December 31, 2011 I purchased 2 Leica lenses from Digital Rev in the past several months and both arrived safely and in time as advertised. I wasn't pleased about paying several hundred dollars over the MSRP but it's better than not having the lenses.
jaapv Posted December 31, 2011 Share #11 Â Posted December 31, 2011 I payed around $4500 which is quite high, but the same price as retail price here in Norway. Â Yes-but won't you get slammed with taxes by Norwegian customs?
matlep Posted December 31, 2011 Share #12 Â Posted December 31, 2011 Yes-but won't you get slammed with taxes by Norwegian customs? Â Oh yes! Both VAT and Customs.

matlep Posted December 31, 2011 Share #14 Â Posted December 31, 2011 Ouch! Â Yep. Â But apparently he will only be paying the VAT, which is 25% on the declared value. Â Apparently is the importing camera gear duty free in Norway from what i can understand.
kokoshawnuff Posted December 31, 2011 Share #15 Â Posted December 31, 2011 Does it say anywhere which lenses are new or used, or the condition if they are used? Â at that kind of premium over the MSRP you won't have to worry about stock (you will get your lens).
CalArts 99 Posted December 31, 2011 Share #16 Â Posted December 31, 2011 From what I'm told, they are a very reputable shop in Hong Kong. I'm sure you'll be fine with everything. Although it's usually best to ask and investigate a business before the fact and not after buying. Â Their YouTube videos are pretty funny. They're the ones who painted the M9 pink...... trylab Posted December 31, 2011 Share #17 Â Posted December 31, 2011 Price for 50 Summilux at Digital Rev= 3600 USD (+ 25% VAT to Norway)= 4500 USD (free shipping). Â Price for Noctilux at Digital Rev = 11800 USD -OR- 11250 Euro. In Norway 11800 USD = 9100 Euro ??
StephenPatterson Posted December 31, 2011 Share #18 Â Posted December 31, 2011 Does it say anywhere which lenses are new or used, or the condition if they are used? Â at that kind of premium over the MSRP you won't have to worry about stock (you will get your lens). Â I don't see any listing for "used" lenses on the DigitalRev site, and the Nocti is listed with all boxes and documentation. I'm not sure if everything they sell is gray market or not, but only paying an $800 premium for a Nocti that is selling for around $4000 over list everywhere else seems like a reasonable sum. Of course I could wait another year, and maybe get one...or not. I did pay with American Express, so if there are any problems I know they will stand behind me. Â Interesting to see that they're charging over $8350 for a 35 Summilux, a $3350 premium. I'm glad my dealer in the US says that I should have mine soon. kokoshawnuff Posted December 31, 2011 Share #19 Â Posted December 31, 2011 but then again there's a summilux 50 for $3600 and you know they aren't selling a new one for under the MSRP
StephenPatterson Posted December 31, 2011 Share #20 Â Posted December 31, 2011 It will probably arrive painted pink. I don't mind if it's gray market, but if it's obviously been used then that's another matter. I would not have been comfortable purchasing with Paypal for such an expensive item, but I know that American Express will get involved if the lens is not as described. Â EDIT: I just got off the phone with DigitalRev's customer service in HK and confirmed that the Noctilux is indeed a new lens.
