Just got a M8 with 500 actuations fer a good price!

No lines on long exposures, alignment perfect!

But...

When shooting anything long where noise reduction kicks in I get rgb artifacts all over the place resembling dead pixels on LCD display.

This is just on the LCD preview, when zoomin in & out on camera they go away, go next photo and back they are there again.

Puzzling...

They do not exist on actual photos, just the preview.

Bad firmware flash or evidence of another problem.

Camera just back from Allendale after a "Drive Blocked" issue.

Any Ideas, Thanks in advance.

This sounds like you are describing digital noise represented in the preview of the high ISO image.

That is normal. However, the low quality and low resolution preview on the LCD looks worse than the full size file once you get it on your computer.

Yep, I'm running 2.014 and get the same problem on preview but dissapearing with zoom in/out, though not all the time. Doesn't appear in images on computer.

Slightly unsettling as it only went to Solms for pixel mapping 6 months ago, so fingers crossed it stays on the preview only.

This is completely normal. On long exposures the M9 does a black frame type noise reduction.

Any sensor will start to show differences in pixels as the sensor heats up. That is the reason, for instance, that astronomical sensors are cooled by liquid nitrogen.

Leica solves the problem by taking a second, black exposure of the same length and subtracting that from the actual file. This gets completely rid of this type of noise without any negative effect on the picture.

As the camera shows the embedded initial jpg on the lcd first, and replces it with the final one as soon as it is generated, you will see the noise disappearing, irrespective whether you are zooming or not.

The same goes for the histogram and the clipping warning. They will change before your eyes.

So don't' worry. Your camera is working exactly as it should.
