One of the difficulties of using super wides on the M is the minimum focusing distance. This may seem ridiculous to some (2.6 feet, who would want to get closer than that!) but in actual use for those really dramatic shots, esp with people, then it's best to be able to get in real close. I have an SE 18mm for the M but it's difficult to get the same style of shots I can with the Nikon 14-24. Like Steve says, the wide lens take no prisoners, and are relegated to a very special view, the novelty of which can wear off quickly, vs an all rounder like a 35 or 28.

Wow, 50mm to 21mm.... you might want to do yourself (and your photography) a favor and get something in between first, like a 35 or a 28. 21 is very wide on the M9 and can be frustrating to use at first unless one is doing primarily landscapes or people in wide environment type shots. A 28/50 is a very good combo (though a 35 is my carry everywhere lens), and the small 28/2.8 asph is one of the few Leica lenses still easy to find. But of course only you can say what will work best for you....

I have to say that I agree fully with this assessment. Starting with my M3 I had 28 and 50 and found it a very practical combination. While I have upgraded bodies, I have also added a 21 and 35. I still feel that the 28 and 50 work as an ideal pair and would happily travel with them. However, in strong competition is the TriElmar-M 28-35-50 which works for most daylight situations and is a truly excellent travel lens. For insurance I would always carry at least one fast lens for interiors and low-light photography.

True, but when everything works the results can be magic. Being able to truly use wide and ultra wide lenses is one of the great things about the full frame sensor on the M9.
