MarcRochkind Posted February 22, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just got the 2 coupons today because I registered a 35mm Summicron, which I bought to be my M8 "normal" lens. I wasn't sure I would ever have more than one, so I had to pick something under the assumption that I would have only one. I understand HCB used a 50mm mostly, and 35mm is the new 50mm (a little less, actually). Â (I'm thinking my second lens might be the Tri-Elmar-M 16-18-21, but that still leaves the coupons on my hands, as I don't think this lens exists in an uncoded form.) Â Anyway... what about the idea of getting a used Leica M lens and having it coded? Which leads to three specific questions: Â 1. What would you choose to go with the 35mm, with the constraint that I only want to use the framelines (no aux viewfinder)? If I buy the TriElmar, I guess the new lens ought to be 75mm, so maybe I answered my own question. Â 2. Are there any particular used lenses that are good values, at least relative to the other choices? Â 3. Where would you by a used lens? (I've only bought one used lens in my life, a Nikon 85mm f1.8 from KEH, and it has been completely OK.) Â --Marc
carstenw Posted February 22, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 22, 2007 75/1.4 fits your points 1 and 2. This lens has been around for a couple of decades, so you should be able to find them in many second-hand stores.
luigi bertolotti Posted February 22, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 22, 2007 I agree with the idea of 75 1,4, not difficult to find; another good choiche can be a Summicron or Elmarit 90 OF THE VERSION THAN CAN BE CODED (verify the tables...) both of them are not difficult to find and generally cheaper than the Lux 75; apart from ebay (which I do not love) there are serious dealrs with good on line stores: Â http://www.leicashop.at (Wien) Domain Name Renewal and web hosting from Network Solutions (USA) Aperture Photographic Tel. 020 7242 8681 (UK) IL CONTATTO -Â Vendita materiale fotografico nuovo, usato e da collezione.
