Guest Ming Rider Posted December 17, 2011 Share #1 Posted December 17, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) On a recent (ish) trip to Liverpool, I was strolling around a newly opened, multi-tiered outdoor shopping centre. Dressed in a black coat, blue jeans, cowboy boots (jeans over so I didn't look like a dork ), rather smart designer spec's, M-Classics bag slung over and the trusty chrome M8 in-hand, I must have cut a dash as no sooner had I taken my first picture, a firm (but polite) Security Guard comes up and asks if I'm working for an agency (chance would be a fine thing), as this isn't allowed without a permit. I explain that I'm in Liverpool for a few days and taking photo's purely for my own benefit. Amazingly, he was completely happy with this and went back to Security Guarding, 'nearby'. No more than 30 seconds later, the guy in the picture below arrives on the scene. I knew he hadn't been there before me, as I'd noticed him out on the street previously. There he stood, skipping from shot to shot like a Ninja, brandishing his Canon DSLR and 200mm Zoom, large bag on shoulder and 'hoody' pulled up & over. Everytime he prepared for a shot, he assumed a pose as though he was dodging cross-fire ! And yes you've guessed it, the Security Guard (still swanning about) didn't bat an eye lid. So I ask the question, is your Leica M(8) as discreet as you think ? P.S. Have any of you Chrome M(8) users been approached by camera afficianado's asking how you are finding the new Fuji X100 ?? He then probably moved along to 'grump at one or more teens" and before break finished up with 'hold a door for elderly person'. Good that they let you pass though. I've taken lots of shots in Liverpool One and not been stopped yet. I expect they'd spoken to your new friend already, though. Yeah, it had crossed my mind that maybe he was a regular, or that he was on his second 'pass', picking off stragglers. And yes, I had no 'beef' with the guard asking questions. Nice city now all the works finished (was my third visit in as many years).
