Dan95 Posted December 12, 2011 Share #1 Posted December 12, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi. Is it normal for leicas, particularly the m6,the 2nd curtain moves a wee bit faster than the 1st curtain ? I can see it moving in gradually for a few miliseconds, then the thing fully closes. Video up tomorrow!

UliWer Posted December 12, 2011 Share #3 Posted December 12, 2011 For times longer than 1/30 the second curtain is slowed down by an escapement ("Hemmwerk") which results in a noticable slower speed.
Dan95 Posted December 12, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted December 12, 2011 So its normal and need not service ? Since it doesnt protrude and block anything. I have a M2, same problem, but the shutter curtain is significantly slower, and blocks a bit of the frame. Had to pay 33USD to get it CLAed! Hope I dont have to get this bugger CLAed... UliWer Posted December 12, 2011 Share #5 Posted December 12, 2011 You can test it (without guarantee): If you use 1 sec. or another long exposure time down to 1/30 and put the camera to your ear, you can hear a fine tickling, similar to a self timer, after the curtains have closed. This is the escapement. If the tickling is regular, with a slight decrescendo, it should be o.k. If it stutters or does not sound at all, it needs to be looked after. Dan95 Posted December 12, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted December 12, 2011 Mine buzzes from 1-1/8, but 1/15 - 1/30 it makes a tick tack flappy sound after the curtain closes. No sound 1/60 >

iphoenix Posted December 15, 2011 Share #8 Posted December 15, 2011 If you set the speed to 1 second, fire the shutter and the over-run (whirring sound) after the shutter closes lasts more than 1.5 seconds and there is no hesitation; the shutter mechanism is probably quite O.K.
