Artichoke Posted February 22, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted February 22, 2007 a bit less costly as well Really Right Stuff...for photography afield they also make an L plate ...I use one of theirs on my S3, but I may go with the simpler plate for the M8

It would be nice to see these mounted to see how much protruded front and back. Thanks for the link Tom

jrc Posted February 23, 2007 Share #7  Posted February 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hre's the RRS BP-CS on the M8. The color match is about perfect (you have to study it to realize that the RRS is a couple of shades darker) and because of the sliding screw assembly, the front lip fits tightly to the front edge of the camera. You also have access to bottom-plate release for battery and card changes without moving the RRS plate.  JC Welcome, dear visitor! carstenw Posted February 23, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted February 23, 2007 That plate is rather large for the M8. Are there smaller ones? What about the basic Kirk plate recommended on their website?
james_h Posted February 23, 2007 Share #9  Posted February 23, 2007 You have to be careful where you point your mouse on that site. You have to click the M8 link and not Leica. If you see the L bracket as well then click another link first and then come back to the M8 link  regards Jim  Welcome, dear visitor! albertknappmd Posted February 23, 2007 Author Share #12 Â Posted February 23, 2007 the kirk one is SMALLER and less obtrusive than the RRS one...
bradhusick Posted February 25, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted February 25, 2007 I own many plates and brackets from both RRS and Kirk, and in my opinion the Kirk M8 plate is better because it has the "lip" edges that prevent twisting on both the front and back edges. The RRS plate has one on the back only.
gesper Posted February 25, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted February 25, 2007 I bought the Markins version that Cocker references (with the link). It is very small, excellent quality, and slightly less expensive than the other ones. I normally use a handgrip base plate on my M8, but keep the Markins quick release plate attached to my original M8 base plate. It is easier to change the base plates when I want to use a tripod (which is not that frequently) than it is to screw and unscrew the Markins, and I dont have the Markins on there when I don't need it. Excuse my ignorance but isn't the whole idea of having a QR plate system so you don't have to screw on and unscrew the camera to a tripod? And that you can connect and disconnect the camera or lens to the tripod much faster and easier. At least that is why I use a QR system and have plates on all my cameras and long lenses for the DSLR. To each his own.  Eh... Ya, but sometimes I don't use my tripod for a month or so. I keep my plate on the tripod when I'm not using it. But then again, if I were using multiple cameras on the same tripod AND using tripods alot, then I would do as you do. All depends on usage, I quess  Rex
gesper Posted February 26, 2007 Share #17 Â Posted February 26, 2007 Exactly. I keep the plate (actually an L-bracket) on my DSLR because I frequently use a tripod. I almost never do with the M8 so I don't like have the plate on the bottom of it when I am carrying it around. Changing the base plate is way faster than unscrewing the plate.
