Ellie Posted December 5, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted December 5, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, could anyone identify if this is dust on front lens element? There are 3 birds and 2 dark spots in this picture, and I could not see any spots in pictures taken earlier that day. It was taken against the sun at f/13 It is a crop though and there are more spots like this in the fullsize picture but some are really faint. Ellie Posted December 5, 2011 Author Share #3 Â Posted December 5, 2011 They are dust on your sensor, which needs cleaning. Â Thanks, this is what I feared - I guess I would get sensor dust sooner or later after using visoflex and old lenses..
wda Posted December 5, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted December 5, 2011 The round slightly blurred spots are contamination. Three, however, could easily be birds in flight.

Usually, most dust particles can be blown away from the sensor easily. However, never blow onto the sensor with your mouth! analog-photo Posted December 5, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted December 5, 2011 As said; it is dust on the sensor. If you have Adobe Lightroom 3 there is a smart tool to take them away in the picture. Â Lars

Double Negative Posted December 5, 2011 Share #10 Â Posted December 5, 2011 Sensor dust. Â Blow it out with a rocket blower (not compressed air) first and repeat a test shot at f/16 of the sky to see where you stand. Go from there. Â Wet cleaning is intimidating the first couple of times you do it - and does require a bit of care. But after that, it's no big deal. Dust is a fact of life, so start practicing.
