Advice for a beginner

Hi, I am new to film and have just acquired a lovely m6 ttl.

(I thought this the best balance between modern acroutrements , ie it has a meter, versus not wanting to invest too much at this stage. It has the 0.85 viewfinder which I thought would help with longer lenses. My thinking was that if I go wider i would go wider than 28mm so the o.72 viewfinder wouldn't give me the right frame lines anyway. At least this way, I'm best places for 90mm).

My question is around film processing. I bought some fuji superia and ilford hp5 to mess about with. Does the forum allow recommendations for processing services? I'm in London. Somebody mentioned something to me about getting B+W film processed through the normal colour process (is it called C41?) as it is cheaper than dedicated BW processing.

Would be grateful for all advice on film buying + processing. I'm hoping to get the processor to scan the negs for me too.

Thanks

You cannot process traditional black & white film, like Delta 400 or HP5, in C41 chemistry.

If you are using traditional B&W film, you would be strongly recommended to develop it yourself at home. It's cheap, easy and much better than commercial processing.

As Andy has pointed out, HP5 cannot be processed in C41 chems, you need C41 process B&W film - which is basically the same as colour neg but without the colour dyes. You can just shoot colour neg and convert the images to B&W in photoshop. Traditional B&W film like HP5 has a different look, and is very easy to process yourself.

For a start, to get your films processed for you, try your nearest branch of Snappy Snaps. They do C41 on site and will also handle your HP5, and I've always found their quality reliable.
