Advertisement Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Hi barber, Take a look here M6. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted November 27, 2011 Share #2 Posted November 27, 2011 They are almost certainly genuine. I've never heard of fake M bodies, and lenses were manufactured in Canada as well as Germany.
mikebidwell Posted November 27, 2011 Share #3 Posted November 27, 2011 From the serial number you quote for the body that appears to be made in 1984 as part of a batch of 2000 and the lens in 1987. Would be nice to see images of both body and lens. Best wishes Mike

smb Posted November 27, 2011 Share #8 Posted November 27, 2011 The early M6s had the writing on the top plate with the word Wetzlar, which is where they were made. They are commonly referred to as Wetzlars. Later the factory moved the word Wetzlar was removed.

Allen in Montreal Posted November 28, 2011 Share #10 Posted November 28, 2011 Great combo, The M6 is a great workhorse camera. I had the same series of 35mm years ago, should have never sold it, a fine, fine piece of glass! Enjoy! :) HI, I have just bought a M6 on the top plate ERNST LEITZ WETZLAR GMBH no numbers on the front of the view finder, it has not got made in germany on the back serial number 1658234 with this a lens LETIZ SUMMICRON - M 1:2/35 E39 3453582 on the bottom of the lens made in canada, did not know they made leica lenses in canada, is this a genuine camera and lens genuine leicas
Michael Geschlecht Posted November 28, 2011 Share #11 Posted November 28, 2011 Hello barber, Welcome to the Forum. There are many different manners in which M6's were engraved. Best Regards, Michael

pico Posted November 28, 2011 Share #13 Posted November 28, 2011 ERNST LEITZ WETZLAR GMBH means it was made in Germany. Very few M6s were made in Canada. I don't have those serial numbers. Your camera is of the first lot of M6. No numbers in the front of the viewfinder was typical. To the best of my knowledge.
bill Posted November 28, 2011 Share #14 Posted November 28, 2011 You are describing my first M6. It is indeed an early model, without anti-rub inserts. There was no need for a number on the front viewfinder window because when it was made there were no other viewfinder variants. Regards, Bill
