I bought a used 1.25 magnifier off of ebay.(eclipse with cup)

My view is blurry. The glass looks clean. I have owned a chinese ebay magnifier before and it worked purfectly(lost it). Anyone have a similar thing happen? Seller says it was new and not used but it's a sharper focus without it. He wants me to have a local shop verify it in writing. As far as I know the only Leica dealer in town went out of business .. so I'll have to go to another shop.

Did you adapt it to your eye' s strength? If You can use the diopter you need for your viewfider, although some find that a -0.5 difference works better. My experience is that the diopter loses too much contrast to be helpful in focussing unles you have the strength spot-on.

It may be that the glass (there are two parts) inside the magnifier is upside down.

It happened to me a few times that the magnifier (however it was an original Leica 1.25x) somehow unscrewed itself and the glass dropped out and when I put it back in I did it the wrong way thus the image was blurry.

Had to fiddle with it a couple of times to put the glass back properly and of course it worked again. May be worth a try, good luck.

Interesting that you say that. I took my M9 with fitted magnifier to a London dealer to try a diopter instead. The accessory was quite tightly in place and when it was unscrewed it fell into all its component pieces and we had to scrabble round the floor to find one missing part!
