Canon vs Epson (A3 printer)

Recommended Posts

Which one Canon or Epson? Small to max A3 prints. Which one delivers the best output in color and B/W. I want the prints to last very long and not to see any degradation over time.

Thanks in advace!

Epson R3000.

That depends on a lot more than the printer, e.g., papers, archival mat materials, UV conservation glass, location of hung print (out of direct sun), etc. Modern Epson inks are very good, and some folks even use 3rd party inks in their Epsons, like those from John Cone, which are rated for longevity by Wilhelm Imaging Research. This link will provide lots of info on print longevity.

Apart from the Epson R3000 mentioned, the 3880 (or older 3800) is also a very capable printer, with larger ink cartridges if you do heavier volume.

Adrian, it really depends on what you want to achieve.

Printing only BW? Get an Epson an dedicated BW inks.

I switched from my old R800 pigment based printer to a regular ink 1400 and was surprised by the quality.

But the main reason i went with Epson was the excellent 3rd party support. I use a continous ink system from Lyson (their ink is fantastic), for example.

I also have just purchased an Epson R3000 - Again I cannot fault it's output.

If you have an old Epson A3 printer - working or not - Epson UK will take this in part exchange deducting £200 off the price of the new R3000 printer. Also if you speak to the nice people at Epson they will/may extend the guarantee to 3 years with no additional cost. You need to check if these deals are available in your country

I made my choice based on the very good advice of this forum - including Steve who posted above (thanks again Steve).

Best regards,

Nick.
