Battery jungle

For the Leica R3mot that was given to me I need two batteries of type V76PX. In the meantime I found some but it seems that type SR44 is similar to the V76PX. But is LR44 also the same? And is alkaline preferrable above Silver oxide?

Also what about the 625 PX for the Leica CL. Is there a replacement for that one?

The LR44 is an alkaline cell while the V76 and SR are Silver Oxide cells. I think the silver cells hold voltage more constant as they age. I think the 357 is equivalent to the SR44. I believe the R3 takes 2 cells "stacked" - so I usually use the CR1/3N Lithium cell in my R4 and similar cameras.

For the PX625 there are options. The CL meter can be recalibrated to work with the replacement 1.5v PX625A battery. (The original 625 was mercury 1.33V). For direct replacement use the Wein cell mrb625 "zinc-air" battery which is 1.35V. The Wein lasts about a year once opened to air. I usually use CRIS MR-9 adapter, which is the size of the PX625 and holds a 386 silver oxide cell. The MR-9 has a diode circuit that outputs the correct 1.35 V to the meter. (Be sure to use the correct 386 cell. An SR44 looks like it will fit, but is a bit thicker and it won't fit the CL properly - I know!)
