Advertisement Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Hi wattsy, Take a look here Paypal. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ockie50 Posted November 22, 2011 Share #22  Posted November 22, 2011 Neverever send an item that has been payed via PayPal without tracking. If the buyer claims that he has not received the article and you are unable to proof it, you will loose your money. I do accept PayPal payments only from reputable buyers.  Ulrik  NOT CORRECT !! PayPal has buyer protection and will reimburse up to 30 days after purchase!
thighslapper Posted November 22, 2011 Share #23 Â Posted November 22, 2011 In 10 years of ebay buying and selling I've never had any issues. Â The only down-side of Paypal is that it takes yet another cut of the cash paid if you want to transfer it to your bank. Â I tend to leave it and use Paypal for payments until the account has run dry.... Â There is no 100% safe method of buying/selling things privately.... even exchanging for cash in a motorway service station (which I've done plenty of times ... although it looks suspiciously like drug dealing to the unwary onlooker ) still leaves you open to buying a dud or being bonked on the head and robbed... Double Negative Posted November 22, 2011 Share #24 Â Posted November 22, 2011 PayPal sucks... Â I'm sorry, what was the question?
earleygallery Posted November 22, 2011 Share #25  Posted November 22, 2011 I've heard of bank transfers going wrong, money reversed due to fraud after a seller has sent the goods! That's why I said allow a few days before posting goods (a warning sign is a buyer in a desperate rush for the item).  Paypal protection does work if you follow the rules. I was reimbursed for £400. The paypal people were very helpful too.  I've yet to have any problems being paid via paypal.
M. Valdemar Posted November 23, 2011 Share #26 Â Posted November 23, 2011 I used to sell very high value collectible cameras and watches on eBay. Â In the last few years, PayPal has become so hostile to the seller that I no longer will sell high value items in eBay, and I definitely will not use PayPal as a seller. Â jaapv is correct, the buyer can claim anything is "not as described" and send back a brick in a box. There is no proof required. Seller takes all the risk. Â It is a paradise for buyers, a huge risk for sellers. Â Personally, I wish the days of the face to face camera shows were still here.

theendlesshouse Posted November 23, 2011 Share #28 Â Posted November 23, 2011 If you're new to paypal and selling through ebay paypal will place a hold on the money until either the buyer leaves positive feedback or after (up to) 28days. Ebay isn't much more than a dealers market these days.
peter_n Posted November 23, 2011 Share #29 Â Posted November 23, 2011 I've bought and sold using eBay/PayPal for years and so far haven't had a problem. I've tried selling on photo forums and had some success, but often the item has gone to eBay where it always gets sold. As a buyer I really like using eBay for international transactions; so convenient and inexpensive compared to bank transfers. If you do your research on buyers/sellers, read the PayPal fine print, and always insist on shipping insurance and a receipt signature you should be OK. Â One thing I used to get spooked about is the frequency of hacking into PayPal accounts. Now I change my PayPal email address on an irregular basis and use the PayPal Security Key feature. Their security key works as follows: When I enter my PayPal userID and password instead of being logged in there's a button on the page that's labeled "Send SMS". I click on it and seconds later I get a text message on my mobile phone with a randomly generated 6 digit number that's valid for a few minutes. I enter that and then I'm into my account. What I like about this is that the key transmission is not internet based and my mobile is the only device with the key that expires pretty quickly. It's free and worth looking into if you use PayPal.
M. Valdemar Posted November 23, 2011 Share #30 Â Posted November 23, 2011 Have bought loads of things - very high value Leica and Nikon items via Ebay and Paypal and have never had a single problem. I think if you look at the sellers feedback in detail and see also what they themselves have bought in the past you can get a good feel as to if somebody is genuine. Make sure that high value items are sent insured or if possible try and meet up with the seller to personally collect. Â Like I said, there is no problem for buyers. It is the seller of expensive items that has to take all the risk.
earleygallery Posted November 23, 2011 Share #31  Posted November 23, 2011 Or answering small ads in magazines or papers and get face-to-face selling that way as well  I've bought and sold via eBay on this basis too, just state collection only, and cash on collection 'preferred'.  eBay is just a platform, you can use it many ways to suit your preferences. New buyers/sellers just need to be aware of the potential problems.
digbyhp Posted November 25, 2011 Share #32 Â Posted November 25, 2011 One key advantage of PayPal vs bank transfer for the vendor is that account details are kept hidden from the buyer. All the buyer needs to know is the email address of the vendor.
