thomsva Posted November 30, 2011 Share #21 Posted November 30, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have used my X1 for almost 2 years and still haven't been tempted to switch to another camera. I use my SLR sometimes but mostly I carry only the X1. My wishlist (in order of importance) would be: -better screen -sturdier build -even smaller size -leave out the flash, i never use it
Advertisement Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Hi thomsva, Take a look here Two years after it was announced the X1 is still unique. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
artyca Posted December 3, 2011 Share #22 Posted December 3, 2011 Can't believe time flies so fast and my X1 is almost 2 years old. It's still my default travel companion and it still astounds me with its crisp, sharp images (especially when shooting in RAW)...
Retrowonker Posted December 4, 2011 Share #23 Posted December 4, 2011 I have just bought a used M8 and a couple of new Leica lenses. Great pics! Guess what? I am still keeping my X1 as it serves its purpose very well. Evening outing with friends, holiday etc. Was in Hong Kong a month back and took some nice B&W pics with the X1. Retrowonker, Welcome to the Forum! I have always considered my X1 to have two roles. One, stand-alone for those events where more kit is impractical; two - companion sharing a bag with an M, especially if the latter has a useful alternative focal length lens fitted. robert blu Posted December 4, 2011 Share #25 Posted December 4, 2011 ...companion sharing a bag with an M... I agree, when traveling I oft have the m7 with 100 iso film for exterior and use the x1 for interior when I need higher iso, which I find ok till 1.600. A good combination. robert PS: I'm mainly a 35mm lens shooter...
fen hawk Posted December 5, 2011 Share #26 Posted December 5, 2011 Coming up on a year with my X1. Really enjoying it. The bottom line for me has been, and always will be, image quality....which the X1 has in spades. It's just a really great little camera.
lykaman Posted December 6, 2011 Share #27 Posted December 6, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All, well as I'm getting on in years I decided that the "big" camera bag was now a No No"" For me, at my stage of photography the X1 does it all, I have a D3000 in my car as a back up... I have been a shutter lunatic ever since Alexandra Palace opened and I started using a Box Brownie... Having used many of other known camera brands & the DLux4/R6.2/M3/M6 I think the X1 is a beautiful photographic tool...

NZDavid Posted December 9, 2011 Share #32 Posted December 9, 2011 Don't have the X1 any more -- returned for sensor cleaning followed by sensor failure, repaired, traded towards M9. But I still really like the X1 concept and am eager to hear about a successor with W/A zoom or interchangeable lenses. What makes the X1 unique or special? Rounded body shape and compact size, just like the first Leicas, traditional shutter dial and aperture dial instead of multiple mode settings (Fuji X100 is the only other camera to do this), superb IQ even at high ISOs. jpjansen Posted December 9, 2011 Share #33 Posted December 9, 2011 Time for a birthday party complete with a Leica cake! Just returned from a short holiday in Lisbon, Pt. and I'm glad I left the 5DII and it's attendant prime lenses at home. From Marques de Pombal Square to downtown is less than 3 clicks but the return trip is up hill all the way and sort of progressively steep on the approach to the hotels beyond Sq Pombal. The last time I weighed my Loewepro + 5DII + 3 primes + assorted junk such as light meter it was about 9 kg and I wouldn't have had much fun going up that hill. Age, and so on... In the event of catastrophic loss I'd probably buy an X100. As things are I'm considering to get a Fuji X10 (X-Ten) for my wife. X1 strong points: - lightweight, fairly concealable - irreproachable IQ especially in low light conditions (refer to attachments) - manual control without much fuss (after firmware update) I must note that I use the Leica viewfinder in preference to the LCD unless circumstance dictate otherwise. X1 weak points: - auto focus (much improved after firmware update but still iffy) - no backlight on control buttons -- I'd like to adjust ISO etc without turning on the LCD - battery life --- do not leave home without a spare and a charger. Keep the charger in your hand luggage -- you'll find a (Canon, Nikon, iPhone)-charger in the weirdest parts of this planet but not a Leica battery charger as it is considered a spare part and not an accessory --- I'm speaking from grim experience here. Wish list: - fixed lens without moving barrel, sort of like Fuji X100 - viewfinder, sort of like M9 (just kidding) Heard about X1: - peeling skin: no complaints so far (6/2010) - sensor dust: no complaints so far (above) I've tried to make sure that the attachments conform to the requirements of this forum; if not I'll post a link to flickr. I think this camera performs its best in B&W. shoot some more B&W's This is not necessarily so. It just happens that I choose some photo's to be rendered in B&W. The shot of the golf course with power pylons was printed at a gorgeous 36" in B&W for a contest, though. Perhaps I'm getting old and more inclined to see things in grey shades ;=) Jos
Arif Posted December 24, 2011 Share #37 Posted December 24, 2011 I had one but sold it early since the AF was too slow for me (prior to the firmware updates), manual focus was a nightmare, and both these issues made it marginal for me to use versus my existing M9. I would be happy to reconsider the X2 since the concept is a very good one to have a high quality, higher ISO travel/back-up camera.

The AF is slow but having checked all kind of mirrorless cams m4/3 and Nex the x1 spot metering is still the most accurate IMO.
Ivan Muller Posted January 3, 2012 Share #39 Posted January 3, 2012 Glas to know you are happy with it (as I am). Just curious where did you send the camera for check, because "Will be a week to 10 days I was told." . In my country it takes at least 5 weeks...bye, robert 8 weeks in my case.......
