Keith (M) Posted November 19, 2011 Share #1 Posted November 19, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) These may be judged as dumb questions, but bear with me as this week saw my first acquisition of (and experience with) a LTM lens. In the pictures below, the first shows the lens at infinity and the second at minimum focus distance. In moving the lever from infinity to min focus, the barrel and DoF boss move out away from the lens mount, exposing the thread. I have had a wide range of lens types from different manufacturers over the years but this is the first time I have seen a thread exposed in this way. Is this normal for an Elmar? Second dumb question - does it matter if the lens is extended or collapsed when fitting or removing to/from the camera?
Advertisement Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Hi Keith (M), Take a look here Elmar 5cm f3.5 Focus Operation?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted November 19, 2011 Share #2 Posted November 19, 2011 1) completely normal - beautiful purely functional design 2) it's better to change the lens when extended. It's a bit easier and you avoid the risk of snagging the cam.
jc_braconi Posted November 21, 2011 Share #3 Posted November 21, 2011 Just a tip for you and for the LTM users : when you screw on the lens on the camera, let the focusing lever be at 11 oclock, i.e. in front of the rangefinder window. it will screw immediatly.
