Agent M10 Posted November 17, 2011 Share #1 Posted November 17, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here's my dilemma. I have an MP which I really like for B&W. I have the funds for a second MP or an M9. Do I buy a second MP for color film or dive into digital for color with the M9? I really like the manual aspect of the MP. I'm not suremthat I want to spend all that time on post-processing digital.
Advertisement Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Hi Agent M10, Take a look here 2nd Camera MP or M9?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jeff S Posted November 17, 2011 Share #2 Posted November 17, 2011 So, you want to have your own film/digital debate? Post-processing digitally is no more trouble than processing your b/w in your darkroom. You do that, don't you? Jeff
TomB_tx Posted November 17, 2011 Share #3 Posted November 17, 2011 The M9 was my first digital body, and it makes a good companion to a film M. You can use it in manual like the MP - very similar meter readout. However, it doesn't have manual shutter wind - so you have the little motor buzz to recock the shutter. The metering pattern is not quite the same "spot" as the MP, as the M9 is more center-average with a white band across the shutter. Both give good results as long as you know the differences. I use my M9 in manual meter mode almost all the time, as I switch between M6 and M9, and this lets me keep the same habits. I think you would like the M9-MP combination. I like the M9 results without post processing. If you shoot RAW files and use the included Lightroom software its a very direct process from camera to print. Agent M10 Posted November 17, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted November 17, 2011 TomB, Thanks for the comment. I don't see myself parting with an MP for Black and White. I don't like the linear signature of digital B&W, but color may be a different story. An M9 would be pretty handy for non-print stuff and that's why I'm considering it. I like the fact that you can change between the M6 and M9 without changing any habits. I am selling off extraneous bodies and lenses to do just that.
