vonheim Posted November 16, 2011 Share #3 Posted November 16, 2011 Just read your article. Very nice and interesting to read your commentary on each picture and why you ordered them the way you did. I cannot agree too much with the "drive by shooting" and "well-seen" points. However, I think the "back of people" can be interesting when they are added as an observer of the scene you are capturing. I find that adding an observer of the scene in the picture, and the observer's reaction to the scene, adds an extra dimension to street photography. Fine work! Thank you for pointing me to it!! Stan Raucher Posted November 20, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted November 20, 2011 Knut - Thanks for your comments about the of photos involving "the back of people". Yes, some can be interesting. One of my favorite images is Mary Ellen Mark's photo of Fellini from behind. Cheers, Stan
johnwolf Posted November 21, 2011 Share #5 Posted November 21, 2011 Stan, Congratulations and thanks for sharing this. I'm not a subscriber but downloaded the PDF version for my iPad. I really enjoyed Brooks' intro to your interview--his honesty and tone are wonderful--and have scanned the photos. I'm looking forward to spending some time with the interview. And BTW, you're in good company with Vivian Maier. I attended her Chicago show. What a great story and body of work. I've been at a crossroad with my own photography, heading from natural and urban landscapes to more work with people, including street. I can always use more education and inspiration. Thanks again. Messsucherkamera Posted November 26, 2011 Share #6 Posted November 26, 2011 Stan - My LensWork just arrived today and your images are simply outstanding! Congratulations on having your work published in LensWork - that is no mean feat. Between your work and the Vivian Maier portfolio, L/W #97 is one my top three or four favorite LensWork issues of all time. Your commentary on street photography in the interview is also excellent - good show!
