pig882009 Posted November 7, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted November 7, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am going for a 4 weeks holiday around Asia. I am really looking forward to the journey with my M9 and Lux 35. Currently, I am using Luigi case to house my Leicas when shooting. Â Is there any other camera case that would offer more protection against thief and pocketpicking. Â The worst thing could happen to your holiday is lossing your beloved leica gear. Doc Henry Posted November 7, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted November 7, 2011 Hello, I went to South East Asia * last year with my M8, M9 and macro Elmar 90 mmm as telephoto. I put them in a Billingham bag pro and I was not bothered at all during my trip (safe from theft, looks and shock) Also in both pockets of the bag, I have my Sandisk memory cards and my Leica spare batteries ready to use if the Billingham is too expensive for you buy another brand but a bag is essential Best Henry *http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/landscape-travel/201063-ruins-my-son.html
chris_tribble Posted November 7, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted November 7, 2011 Take the padding out of your favourite branded camera bag and drop it into a no-brand cheapo satchel. The thing to avoid (in life, in general) is to wander around with your valuable kit in a bag that screams "Hey - I'm expensive, steal me...". The other thing to avoid (and I know this to my cost) is putting the bag on the floor or the back of a chair when you're in a public space. They may be going for the wallet / passport, but they then end up with your Leica!

The thing to avoid (in life, in general) is to wander around with your valuable kit in a bag that screams "Hey - I'm expensive, steal me...". Â Agreed. My Billingham bag fits nicely inside a small, old rucksack, and the rucksack itself allows me to carry other essential items, like food and drink (which are in a separate section from holding the Billingham bag). The combination might be somewhat slower to use, but from the outisde it certainly looks normal. Â Enjoy your trip!
Tietje Posted November 7, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted November 7, 2011 Same here, I've been using the same "bag within bag" arrangement for a few years now. Agreed that its a bit slow but, you have to compromise sometimes.
edmond_terakopian Posted November 8, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted November 8, 2011 One suggestion I would make is to keep your cards separate to your kit. I always have my SD cards in a Think Tank Photo Pixel Pocket Rocket which in turn is either in my pocket or in a pouch on my belt. Â Have fun, take pictures and don't worry :-) Â Edmond

menos I M6 Posted November 8, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted November 8, 2011 I am living in Shanghai, travel in China and have shot in places, not everybody would, especially at night. I commute regularly by metro (crowded, pick pocket heaven), shoot in crowded places and never ran into trouble, worrying about my gear. Â I prefer non screaming camera bags, which I keep also as my daily office bags, meaning, they quickly get a slightly worn look. I do not like the bright leather, fashionable Billingham style, as this is simply screaming "money", but prefer black canvas (a A&A canvas bag is my favorite for more than a year now). Â Primarily though, getting stuff stolen or not depends not on which bag you carry or how expensive the stuff, you want to prevent from being stolen is, but on your behavior and your awareness. Â I usually have two digital Leica M and two to three fast lenses with me. I shoot with that without worries, because you can see worry creeping in your pictures, or the ones, you didn't take ! Â I think, the common sense rules of do's and don'ts should be pretty obvious, so no listing here (you know, the "Don't leave your bag on the floor, when using the restroom in a bar!" - kind of stuff). Messsucherkamera Posted November 14, 2011 Share #9  Posted November 14, 2011 This is about as good as it gets for an anti-theft camera bag: Pacsafe Anti-Theft Bags & Travel Security Products  If that bag is too small, there's always this one: Pacsafe Anti-Theft Bags & Travel Security Products  Beyond that, the only other really secure option I can think of would be to put your camera gear in a Pelican box (a 1500 or smaller size) and put that in a daypack for ease of carry. That may seem like overkill, but it depends on the seriousness of the theft threat you face.  Primarily though, getting stuff stolen or not depends not on which bag you carry or how expensive the stuff, you want to prevent from being stolen is, but on your behavior and your awareness. There's alot of truth in that statement.  I recently read a thread on another forum where someone was lamenting the theft of his Hassleblad 500 series camera, film back and 80mm lens at a college football game. He sat his camera bag on the bleachers in the stadium and thought it was secure because it was right next to him. Predictably (and sadly), it wasn't.
