carcam Posted February 17, 2007 Share #1  Posted February 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) At least for me...for now...unless, of course, something else makes more sense and I'll change my mind (and I'm easily swayed by all you forum members).  Anyway, I'm new to Leica and RF and loving this little camera. Trying to stay small and light with a minimum (sort of) # of lenses, this is what I've come up with so far.  Domke F-5XB, 21 Elmarit, 35 lux, 50 lux, 75 cron.  Favorite accessory- easily the 1.25x viewfinder from HK Supplies ($75 usd) and it arrived here in NC in 10 days. I can leave it on all the time and when using the 21mm lens, just add the VT 28mm viewfinder (another ebay bargain). Focusing and frame lines are much easier now.  The bag is easy to use. I have the Leica flash and keep it under the camera which raises up the camera so that with any lens attached, the camera is up high and easy to take in and out. Although I bought the flash before getting the camera and lenses and doubt I will use it much. There is an inside and outside pocket for filters, cards, batteries, etc. Wife says it still looks like a "murse" (man purse) but what other choice do I have. The little dividers are perfect because they are small and flop over on top to protect the lenses when the camera is resting on them. (dividers stolen from countless too many other bags in my closet). However, I find most of the time I have the camera around my neck with the 35 on and a lens or 2 in my pockets.  Luigi strap coming.  I still would like a 28 cron but not sure why...maybe to get to a 3 lens set-up (28-50-75)... a better bag maybe...otherwise I'm loving it. Off to Mexico next week on vacation so may have some photos to post soon. Thanks again for all the help and insight. Welcome, dear visitor! bnelson Posted February 17, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 17, 2007 Great bag post. I have close to this setup and am looking for a small bag like this. Thanks especially for the photos. Â Bill

peterv Posted February 17, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted February 17, 2007 Cool! And very small! Â Are you sure you don't need protection for your LCD? Â The bag's zip seems to come really close. Is it plastic? Â Anyway, have fun in Mexico! Â Peter
Micha67 Posted February 17, 2007 Share #5  Posted February 17, 2007 Anyway, I'm new to Leica and RF and loving this little camera. I´m jealous!   Got a Contax G2 with 21-28-45-90 a couple of years ago, hoping that Zeiss/Contax would survive and migrate towards a digital future ...  Good selection of stuff and bag! carstenw Posted February 17, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted February 17, 2007 Has anyone here got the Artisan&Artist Sebatiao's Reporter Satchel? I would love to get the Oskar's Day Bag, but it is just too small for what I want, so the Sebatiao is next in line. I wish it didn't have that leather patch on the front, but could live with it. popum Posted February 17, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted February 17, 2007 I was at Photo Village today and bought the new, even smaller, version of the Day Bag. I saw a Sabatio without the leather. It is quite nice but very deep. You would be putting one lens on top of another. If that doesn't bother, then the bag works. PhotoVillage will be closed from 2/20 to 2/27. carcam Posted February 18, 2007 Author Share #12 Â Posted February 18, 2007 We have the same colour Aga as you do... Â Hi Mark- We love our AGA and they are quite rare on this side of the pond. We like it so much we have a second one (green) at our lake house. I'm surprised you noticed but then again there are so many Brits into nice cameras, why not nice ovens too. carcam Posted February 18, 2007 Author Share #13  Posted February 18, 2007 Hand grip. May want to look at that. i can't shoot without it   Thanks Guy- I'll get one. Was thinking of getting the 1/2 case from Luigi with the built in hand grip but kind of like it without the case better.  And MWalker- got the bag at B&H and the camera sits low enough that the zipper doesn't come close to the LCD to scratch it. carstenw Posted February 18, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted February 18, 2007 Mike, if you have the time and feel like it, some shots of your setup with the Day Bag would be interesting.
grober Posted February 18, 2007 Share #15 Â Posted February 18, 2007 Funny how some of us noticed the red Aga stove; I'd like one of those too. Â Hey, all my Ms have been black since those first used M3s four decades ago. But looking at this thread has made me consider a second M8 in silver. 'Twould make it easier to differientiate when using both, yes? Â Which bag for the M8? Billingham always. Â -g
popum Posted February 18, 2007 Share #16  Posted February 18, 2007 Carsten  This is my first attemp at posting pictures... so hopefully it will work. The bag, as photographed, holds the M8 with the 24mm mounted, a CV 15 in one side pocket and a 35mm Cron in the other. The CV and Cron could be stacked to make room for another lens.  The dimensions (in inches) are 10.5 long, 4.5 deep, and 6 high. It make a very nice compact package. Welcome, dear visitor! biglouis Posted February 18, 2007 Share #17 Â Posted February 18, 2007 I'm another aga owner but I have a question about the set-up :-) Â Great pictures and I'm deeply envious about the kit. I'm interested to know you opinion about the differences you experience between the 35-50-75 lenses. I can understand the long end but don't you find the 35 and 50 are covering pretty similar viewing area? Â When I consider the M8 my first thoughts are 28 and 90 focal lengths as I'm unsure as to whether I'd use the intermediate focal lengths at all. Â I'd be interested in your thoughts. carstenw Posted February 18, 2007 Share #18 Â Posted February 18, 2007 Louis, I cannot comment on the 75 (yet), but the 35 is for me a perfect walk-around lens. It is just less than a 50mm lens on a fim camera, which is my preference for that sort of shooting. I find the 50mm too long for that, but it is much better for portraits and friend/family situations, where you are trying to shoot isolated situations and individuals. I do use the 35 more. 21/35/75 might be a reasonable three-lens kit.

There is no way to slip in a standard-size photo magazine between the bag and the liner, is there? Are those dimensions inside or outside? Thanks for the photos. popum Posted February 18, 2007 Share #20  Posted February 18, 2007 Carsten  They are outside dimensions. There is a pocket on the back that could hold a folded map but not a full size photo magazine.  Mike
