Nick_S Posted October 26, 2011 Share #1 Posted October 26, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi I recently bought a very nice M6 0.85x classic camera body to replace the one which was taken from me a few months ago. Along with a CLA service, I would now like to get the MP viewfinder upgrade done by Leica, but I was wondering whether they can also remove the 75mm frame lines. This would leave me with a nice clear four frame line 35/135, 50mm, 90mm set. Has any one here had Leica do this conversion for them? Nick

bill Posted October 26, 2011 Share #3 Posted October 26, 2011 Nick, my MP4 is exactly what you describe. It is the clearest viewfinder apart from my M2, but has the advantage of the slightly higher magnification. Mine was done a la carte from new but I can vouch for the effectiveness of it. budrichard Posted October 26, 2011 Share #4 Posted October 26, 2011 I've had the M6 o.85 for a number of years now and although it does flare from time to time, its not problematic enough to change, which may or may not solve your problem. Use the camera for a while before investing time and money on a solution that may not provide what you want. BTW, I had both my M7's upgraded and I detect no difference in flare.-Dick
kokoshawnuff Posted October 26, 2011 Share #5 Posted October 26, 2011 There is an a la carte option for .85x with just the four frame lines, so leica is set up to do it pretty easily
JayC Posted October 26, 2011 Share #6 Posted October 26, 2011 I had DAG camera do the upgrade and remove the 75 and 135 framelines. Man, I wish I never sold that camera.
Nick_S Posted October 27, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted October 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for the replies. I'll contact Leica for prices and see how much the various options (CLA, MP upgrade, 75mm frameline removal) would cost. Dick, I had my prior M6 0.85x for a couple of decades and I am familiar with the flare issue. I just thought that if I am going to keep using this camera till some future eventual demise of B/W film, I might explore a clearer viewfinder. Nick, If you send it in, have them install the flare free MP optics in your M6 at the same time as the frame lines mod. I had my M6 0.72 done by DAG (it was in for a CLA) a couple of years ago and believe me it is worth every penny. The additional cost can't be that high as they will be opening the top to get to the frame lines anyway, probably just the parts cost. After the upgrade the flare problem has been 100% gone on my M6. CalArts 99 Posted October 27, 2011 Share #9 Posted October 27, 2011 I had DAG do the same to my M6. No more flare and no more 75mm frame line. It was well worth it.
