looking for a online store for fitting my full frame 8x12 prints with appox 2-3in matt borders and simple black frames.

(very similar to this: Nielsen Bainbridge Photo Frame - BLICK art materials)

since i cant find a pre made frame with this look to fit my 8x12 full frame prints i guess i have to go custom.

thanks for the leads.

Buy everything in sections, and in bulk. Get the frame section lengths you need, and hardware kits, from Blick. Buy the mats from any of several reputable companies, including Blick. And buy the glass in pre-cut sections from one of the glass suppliers like Tru-Vue. Only takes minutes to assemble.

By the way, you're welcome on the Blick (and Nielsen) lead.

I compare my savings to what I would otherwise have to spend in a frame shop using the highest quality materials, e.g., premium papers and inks, premium frame materials, archival 100% cotton acid-free mats, UV protected conservation glass, wire hanging kit, etc. I sell and exhibit my work, so it must meet high standards.

So, for a typical 14 x18 framed print, local shops would charge between $125-$150 in addition to my print costs. I can do it all myself for under $30 in materials (including paper and ink). (I could do it for even less using more basic stock.) I stock 2 frame colors and several mat colors to accommodate both color and b/w work. I cut my own mats precisely to each print, so there is some initial investment in a mat cutter, etc.

It's worth it to me, not just for the obvious cost savings, but because each print is essentially custom, even though materials are stock, and I have total control over the process without any delay.

I suggested buying in sections, and in bulk, for 2 reasons: cost savings, and because you get far more flexibility in frame sizes (and mat sizes) that way. You had trouble getting the size you need in part because you were looking at pre-determined frame and mat sizes. With Nielsen, for instance, you can order long and short frame sections by the inch to combine for your specific needs.
